How can this guy be still married? If I were to try this stunt, my desi wife will take me directly to the divorce court and we won't be attending that wedding ceremony :)

Its not like you're pulling up to a Vegas Casino in a Ferrari and the valet is going to park it in front of the hotel!

You'll be parked in the church/etc parking lot, next to all the other dirty (prob way more dirty too) cars. No one will see it or care. Wash it when you get home and enjoy your trip.

More likely the church overflow parking would be at adjacent dirt lot. You think you are worrying too much.

I agree. its the practical constraints that I have issues with...

If youve driven far enough to amass a lot of bugs, then the car is likely really dirty and youll need more time/equipment to get it right, than a spray bottle of QD.

If you havent gone too far and its just an incidental issue that dirties up some spot on the car, then a little QD and a lot of water is all you need.

I just dont see the need to shine glass or do some major detail process when on a short trip from home, or the ability for a minimalist kit to do much when on a long trip where the car is real dirty.

I think that some MFs, a good QD of your choice, and a water bottle is all you really need...

Yeah, glass I may not even need.
Bugs / front bumper/hood and mirrors are the main concern.

I'll just go with what I listed for now.
Thanks for all the comments, guys!

I used to carry a bunch of stuff... however, I found a detail wipe called "The Glosser" made my cleantools which works SO well it replaced almost everything in my quick detail kit. Now I just carry that, some microfiber towels, and some tire shine.

I ALWAYS carry some waterless wash, MF towels, and glass cleaner in the car. For the five minutes it takes to clean the bugs off, it is no problem. I'm anal about my car and I'm ok with that. When we go to our lake house for several days I'll take my rinse less wash and more towels and do an early morning wash. Don't let the naysayers sway you. If it matters to you it matters to you. It matters to me too.

show off? what an idiotic moronic comment!
did you even read my post? where the fudge did anyone talking about showing off? If I wanted to show off with a new car I would take the other car we own, the 2014.

So In your opinion, when a car is 9 yrs old it should be dirty, and uncared for? what!? All the cars that are on the detail forum must be brand new then...

I care about maintaining the appearance of whatever car i own, the 2003, the 2005 AND the 2014.

And by the way there are a LOT of 9 yr old cars out there that probably look a heck of a lot better than some "new" cars.

People care about cars that are a LOT older than 9 yrs.
Grow up.

Amen tbird. Amen. Showing off has nothing to do with the age of the car. I want a clean car as much as possible. We worry so much about oil on here, but some just hammer on those who obsess so much about appearance. Kinda like the old pot kettle thing, isn't it?

You said "and for some reason I need the car(s) to look decent after the arrival/during travel for some occasion, etc."

Why do you need the car to look good for when everyone is going to be around? Does it help the car?

"Look decent" = not look dirty --> does NOT = show off.

I make my cars look decent on a regular basis whenever I think they're dirty and needs detailing - it doesn't matter whether they're inside the garage OR going somewhere. My intention of the thread was to find a way not to carry a bunch of detailing stuff and find out what can be used for a quick refresh after traveling and (if you can read it again) MAINLY to get the caked on BUGS off the front.

You completely misinterpreted my description. I would have it look good even if I was the only person to see it.
and YES - detailing the car and protecting paint helps the car, no matter what the reason behind it.

Also, bugs (my main objective) collected during travel DRY ON to the paint. Removing them as soon as you can after a long stretch of travel at night, is a good way to avoid BAKED ON bug [censored]; I have not done this in the past, and have regretted it a LOT.

what about people posting pics of their detailed car here? Didn't you comment "awesome" on a pic (rightly) on a Camry that was recently detailed and was posted here? why did that member post pics? because he was proud of what he did, and kept the car looking great !!! and he clearly wanted other people to see, but he didn't do it to show off !! did YOU think he was showing off? I don't think so. (or did you?)

We don't detail cars to show off; but IF someone looks at it and sees a clean car instead of a dirty car, I don't think it hurts anyone, either.

PS: gonna keep this ON topic, and not respond to OT attacks anymore - it seems, judging by searching other posts, some members just keep doing it a lot, bordering trolling.

+1
Thanks, man!

Some people appreciate a nice clean and shined up car as much as a cleaned shined up pair of shoes. Some people feel fine going to a wedding with a trashed up pair of shoes with the leather all cracked. But you wouldn't say anything to the guy with a nice spit shined mirror finished pair of shoes now would you? But you definitely will notice when he steps out and his shoes look amazing.

I keep my gloss black Cadillac CTS Coupe well detailed all the time. It always looks like I just waxed it because I clean it with rinseless wash regularly. And when it's clean and shined up I definitely notice heads turning, sometimes I even see them wince because they stare and are then blinded by the reflection from the chrome wheels. But either way people do notice if you roll up in a nice car AND it's shined up.

Even now probably about 1/4 of the times I fill up the tank someone inevitably stops and comments on my car, and not because there's a lack of luxury cars where I live either. It's specifically because people are attracted to shiny objects.

By the way I did Camry because I could :) No, seriously, I wanted to see if the random orbit polisher is as good as it is claimed to be.

Yes, its great to take pride in a good looking and well-kept car. Excellent.

But if youve driven 500 miles and have road dirt and bugs on the car, youre going to need more than just some spray and a rag that you can perform in your tux... yeah, a bug or two, but that's again a different story than being on a trip, covering mileage, going and shining one little thing up.

And if it really is one fresh bird bomb, IME, a 32 oz jug of water can remove most of it.

But if youve gotten enough road dust/dirt built up from a long trip, then youll need something more anyway.

Also, depends upon the dirt. Pollen on a well waxed/sealed and maintained car? That IS the kind of thing that a CA duster is useful for. Any other kind of grime or grit and Id be more careful...

And if youre going for a wedding or event, are the people really that vain and superficial that some bugs or a bird bomb on the hood or trunk is going to make them think more or less of you? Will you be the chauffeur?

I don't get it either. Its a daily driver, all this rubbing and buffing is killing the clear with kindness IMHO by making it thinner and thinner every time you do it.
