Quick "Travel" detail kit. (for emergenices).

I am thinking of putting together a small "travel"/emergency detail kit for when we're traveling, and for some reason I need the car(s) to look decent after the arrival/during travel for some occasion, etc.

(For example: we have a wedding/reception coming up, and we will be traveling during the night to the location, collecting loads of bugs and whatnot on the bumper/hood and elsewhere, and then will show up at the venue like that next morning...)

So, I was thinking of:
- Poorboys' bug squash.
- ONR in QD strength OR Duragloss Aqua Wax in a small - spray bottle (Have a gallon of it); or both
- Meg's Ultimate Spray wax.
(will use the same stuff for wheels, if needed)
- some CF towels
- Stoner's invisible glass

Any thoughts?
I intentionally left out stuff for interior; just having it clean is enough. Detailing, not so important as the exterior in THIS situation. (I do take care of interior on a regular basis)

Haha I do the very same thing :^) I always bring leather conditioner,spray wax,and my microfiber mit.
 
I take Poorboy's Spray & Wipe, Bug Squash, Wet Paint Glaze, and multiple towels ( a dozen or so). Also some Stoner's More Shine for tires if I remember it. I may need only one or all.....depends on the bugs & the weather.

Unless you are exhibiting for a car show I think its excessive. Or maybe if it was a $3-400,000 car

Exactly, detailing a vehicle is the last thing on my mind when I arrive at a destination lol

Sorry, Ill play dumb here - why wouldn't you go to a DIY pull-through car wash and spray the car?

Or else, why not fill a water bottle with water from someplace (or buy a gallon of distilled if you're worried about minerals) and just go over the spots with that?

I would clean my windows beforehand, and other than where the baby sits, I can't imagine they would get dirty. Outside would be easy to clean with a paper towel or freebie from a fast food joint.

I love the basic concept - in fact I was thinking of buying a bunch of MF towels for this very reason, but I can't see taking much besides a few MF, some sort of QD spray and a way to transport water to the stains.

I guess if you're driving through love bug land, it may be different, but then Id still want to use the place where I could at least get some pressurized water...

The thing I would have is a CA Duster. Not that Im keen on using them on a dirty car, but in a pinch they can be handy...
 
I just keep spray detailer made from rinseless wash, ammonia free and clear glass cleaner, and a handful of microfibers. The spray detailer is pretty much just made for cleaning up bird bombs and the occasional bug splatter. Glass cleaner is obviously for clean glass.

And then after that I also just keep a couple bottles of water on hand either if I need to drink it cause I'm thirsty or if anything happens in the interior the ammonia free and clear glass cleaner and water can pretty much clean most messes in an emergency.
 
Just pull into a self serve car wash and hose it down.

Its not like the Presidential Cadillac is showing up for a fancy event after 500 miles on I-95
 
Do y'all smoke in your cars or just offgas a lot? I dont need to clean my glass more than once or twice a year, even for cars that sit outside. It just doesn't get that dirty/smeary. Some cars I can't even remember when I cleaned the glass last.

Just me, but I'd lose the glass cleaner. A good cleaning using newspaper and a good agent works wonders for me..
 
I don't keep a half gallon of glass cleaner in my trunk. I keep an 8 ounce spray bottle. It's still convenient and a good idea especially when traveling as sometimes the bugs can really splatter on the windshield.

And if you live in really sunny locations and you really want to keep your plastics in shape you're likely applying a protectant and 100+ degree days with the sun beating on your protected plastics will off-gas no matter what. And that does work its way to your windshield.

That being said I usually only clean the back of my windshield every couple of months. But I definitely notice if glass is dirty at night when car headlights glare any smeared up oil on the windshield.

Like i said, this is ONLY when we arrive in dirty condition (which I don't care) but THEN later have to go to a sort of a special occasion (THEN I DO CARE). Otherwise I don't care either.

I already have the supplies, and I only need to get some bugs off, and also due to time constraints, and I also might want to do a last minute wipe/detail AFTER getting dressed, so car wash is not really an option. That's way too much hassle for what I am looking for - just a quick detail.

Can't do if I need VERY last minute; already dressed for the wedding or whatever.

Yes, its great to take pride in a good looking and well-kept car. Excellent.

But if youve driven 500 miles and have road dirt and bugs on the car, youre going to need more than just some spray and a rag that you can perform in your tux... yeah, a bug or two, but that's again a different story than being on a trip, covering mileage, going and shining one little thing up.

And if it really is one fresh bird bomb, IME, a 32 oz jug of water can remove most of it.

But if youve gotten enough road dust/dirt built up from a long trip, then youll need something more anyway.

Also, depends upon the dirt. Pollen on a well waxed/sealed and maintained car? That IS the kind of thing that a CA duster is useful for. Any other kind of grime or grit and Id be more careful...

And if youre going for a wedding or event, are the people really that vain and superficial that some bugs or a bird bomb on the hood or trunk is going to make them think more or less of you? Will you be the chauffeur?
 
Yeah, spend your time having a good time at the wedding and not worrying about bugs splattered on your bumper.
 
I will / can do both. why not ?
