About 5k miles on this Quaker State filter from a 2012 Chevy Malibu 2.4L. Other then the twist in the media is looks fine. Anyone know who makes these? A fram extra guard went back in. If it comes out wavy we might try out the ac delco oem filters.

Only if you know you're getting Hengst, the only way I know you're guaranteed to get a Hengst is if you buy a whole new cap+filter assembly, the standalone Delco filters are usually Champ Labs and among the worst twisters.
Thanks! I appreciate the info. This platform is new to me and is a vehicle in our extended family. So I don’t know much about it.

I use Fram Ultra XG9018s because the wire backing keeps them from twisting, any wire backed filter should not twist, the OE Hengst filters usually come out good, I've heard good things about the Purflux filter with the Chevron pleats

QS is usually Mann & Hummel (Purolator). On the few GM Ecotec cartridges I've changed, seems like the AC Delco/Hengst ones are the only ones to NOT come out twisted/squashed!

Look at the center tube. Some are complete from top to bottom, some are not allowing the media structure to take the compression load.

Funny, I find the QS filters are one of the few that don’t seem to twist on my 2.2 Ecotec.
Just had one come off yesterday, 7600 miles on it, no twisting. Fram-made Motomaster versions of this filter had twisting to them.
I think they all work fine, they just don’t look good.

The PF457G sold at Walmart is actually the OE Hengst. I’ve been buying them at Walmart for over a decade now.

Maybe you've gotten lucky, but that stock photo for that has an STP part number on it and the same stock photo is used on the Amazon listing for Champ Labs P3244, the standalone cartridges can be either Champ or Hengst, where the 458G cap should always come with a Hengst since Hengst makes the cap.
