This came off my friends 2018 Suburu Forester with about 95k miles. Had Havoline Pro DS 0w-20 in it. 5k OCI?

So it was done by Iffy Lube or some place. Drain plug and filter over tightened as expected. I had to make a good effort on filter with my high tech surgical filter wrench. NASA approved. See dents on can for evidence. Also used my 1/2 inch 17mm drive on the bolt with some effort. Had to strike it with my hand to finally get it to break. I normally loosen lug nuts with my bare hands so keep that in mind.

So per some very deep diving and extensive research on this filter (Ph. D type stuff) I found a couple different builds. Whip City had a couple videos from 2 and 5 years ago. Both were essentially Champ Builds with nylon cages. Essentially the Super Tech. (Which I bought and will be used next time). This one is different as it had a metal core with holes. Filter was heavy. Base plate felt solid. Nitile ADV. Felt end caps that were glued on strong. Filter media looked good and well manufactured. I opened the pleats some to see in as pictured. All is good. No carbon build up. I would use this filter again.

Im curious of the builder. Saw some stuff saying PG? Is that Prime Guard? What do you think?

In went Quaker State Full Syn 0W-20. This oil has the new GF-7a and SQ rating. Bottle says good for 10k intervals but because of the new rating I use a 3X multiplier. So I told my friend she is good for 30K miles and shouldn't have to check her oil.

Also installed the Fram orange can of death 7317. It was taller than the Super Tech so I just bought both. It has louvers which I inspected and was pleasantly surprised to see that they were mostly closed so I thought perfect! 30K oil. No flow. Can it get any better? Budget oil change! I also had my friend sign a waiver releasing me from any liability and that she acknowledged that I used the cheapest stuff available with no regard to anything since it was not my car.

Here are the pics! I included a shot of my high tech filter analysis station. Tell me what you think!

You’re obviously a master of vehicle maintenance, but you should have paid the extra 2 bucks for Quaker State Ultimate Protection 20k you would have been good for 60k. 🤣

I’m not sure who made that filter but as far as I know Valvoline changes around a lot.

Those are the thickest non-metal end caps I've ever seen. Filter label says Made in China.

Louvers were mostly closed, or mostly open? Thinking it was perfect, I'd assume the latter, lol.

Yeah. I was going to run the 60k oil but that means I wouldn't see my friend for 5 years or so until the next change. Figure 30k is a good OCI/Visit schedule.
