QSUD 5W-40 now at Walmart

Got my VOA back.
Thanks for sending in and posting, been looking forward to that one for quite a while. A little more believable than the first one posted as well but definitely see some consistency's too. I trust Shell over Blackstone so I can't believe this didn't at least barely make 40 grade in their testing. I am running 0w30 now so not concerned about a thin 40.

Anyway it's a GTL base very thin 40 with the add pack I'm looking for at a price that can't hardly be believed. I suspect Shell is dumping left over SN Plus PP Euro and using Wally's to do it, so I'd question how long this will be available.

This is going in the Passat VR6 next week. Also going to UOA the VW 504 0w30 that's in it since we have a recent UOA on that in a VR6 where it got it's tail whipped.

you wanted a budget a3/b4 oil and you got it. corners had to be cut somewhere

in typical sopus fashion it’s pretty much out of grade but for the price you can look over that.

There are also couple other good a3/b4 oils for a few dollars more:
- M1 FS 0W40 is $22.37 but has a little less (80?) moly.
- Castrol Euro 0W40 $24.xx and has 0 moly.
I recently bought both at Wal-Mart. Also got M1 EP 10W30 which is one of my favorites for $22.xx M1 price is typically higher. I've paid $24.xx and as high as $28.xx for the EP. It could be a summer marketing thing.

I will get some QS for $18.xx since it has more moly and I have been doing very short (less than 6500 miles) oci recently.

Speaking of SHELL/QS Syn; why does Wal mart now have Pennzoil “synthetic” and Pennzoil platinum right next to each other? What’s the difference?

Yeah, but I’d wager a winning scratch off ticket SOPUS is heavily putting GTL in all their synthetics. I’m not really a huge fan of their GTL stuff but that’s just me 👍🇺🇸🇨🇦🍺🍺

According to the below chart, not so much:

Wemay hit on it already, but Shell and Mobil have both thrown in a couple of Grp III bargain priced synthetics lately. Shell already had that in QS, but that doesn't have the recognition or sell power the Pennzoil name does.

Anything for more shelf space, I guess we'll see if we're picking it off the clearance rack in two years like the RGT, although they seem to have completely replaced PYB with PFS at walmart now.

They don't sell dino anymore? @53' Stude chart doesn't show any dino either. Wasn't PYB dino & very popular. I've used it many times. I still have a quart left in the garage.

The only "conventional" oils are 10W-30 in some brands, not all. I believe they still are with SOPUS.

Referring to @Quattro Pete chart, many may argue that PYB came with 2 Mustangs for non-extended OCIs. I would say at least 4/5th of a Mustang like one with no tail.

UOA. Short OCI due to having the time to change it and I beat on it pretty good this go around. Things are coming back in-line this change w/r to metals per my trend graph. Just looks like my new turbo took a little longer to flush out those new wear metals is all (iron).

I really don’t like that viscosity.
But, it is bcs. it is W30 oil in reality. Drop in flash point seems signature of Shell GTL. Few recent UOA in BMW’s show drop below 400 after 5k. Both port and direct injuries engines.

I wonder if the thinning is "baked into the formula" or if this wasn't anticipated to happen so soon into an interval by Shell.
