Castrol Edge Euro 5W-30 vs. 5W-40

It would be IF OP was looking for a Porsche specification, which they are not, there is none on the 30 grade.

5w-30 Meets or exceeds industry standards:

  • ACEA A3/B4
  • API SL
  • BMW Longlife-01
  • MB-Approval 229.5
  • VW 502 00 / 505 00

5w-40 Meets or exceeds industry standards:

  • ACEA A3/B4
  • API SP
  • BMW Longlife-01
  • MB-Approval 229.3/229.5
  • MB 226.5 SFU
  • RN 0700 / RN 0710
  • VW 502 00/505 00
  • Porsche A40
  • Chrysler MS-12991
I see this is bit complicated. I already explained above why each oil has specific approval.
But then, you also think Triax is an “oil” so there is that.

There is no Porsche that asks for a xW-30 A3/B4 is what Edy has been saying. There is A40, but there is no A30. The only 30 is C30 which is a mid-SAPS spec.

It's also very likely that the latest bottles of this are the same additive package as the 5W-40 just like the Mobil 1 Euro 5W-30, 5W-40, and 0W-40 are now using the same SP pack.

Ah, Interesting! I didn't know that there is no A3/B4 / C3 oil, it's either or, not both. Does that sound correct?

It can, but it’s the first oil to ever have both on the bottle and be on both lists from Porsche. Not just Amsoil or whoever pretending 🤣.
Depends how Porsche defined new updated approvals.
C40 is fine in A40 application. Other way around would not. I can assure you M1 0W40 FS won’t have C40.
It is not first time. Some oils had VW502.00 and VW505.01.
