Make me a believer. Take my 4k used oil and put it in your car. Show me the truth.

You can see the truth in the study and your comment makes it clear you don't understand the concept. Newton presented a peer-reviewed study done by people with a big budget and a lot of education and experience behind it. What did you put up? An opinion based on what? Did you even read the study?

Sorry. Until something with an equal amount of heft comes along that disproves it, I'm giving the study a lot of weight.

Actually - I do believe in putting my money where my mouth is ...

I am currently running conventional oil in my wife's minivan. We are preparing for a trip out to AZ for Thanksgiving. I have taken an "intermediate" UOA sample at 4.8k miles, and the oil is still in service. I suspect it will be between 9-10k miles upon our return, and I'll probably dump it (and sample). Results pending our expected return.

Futher, if you would be willing to pay for an intermediate UOA sample at my discretion (to assure me there is no problem with your oil) and you pay to ship the oil to me, I'll put your oil in my 2000 Galant in some upcoming OCI for an additional 4k miles, just to put the icing on the cake. IOW - make me a believer in you; send me your money and oil and I'll run it. I suggest an escrow person to hold your money, until my proof is substantiated. I'm willing to put up or shut up; are you?

I realize it's hard to "undo" decades of marketing hype and mental programming, but facts and data do not lie, no matter how much one chooses to ignore them.

It'd have to be a bit different. I'm like Ronnie Raygun, trust, but verify. I'd put money up in escrow with a mutually agreeable person. For UOA, shipping and time of hassle. You and I and verifier here watch me take sample and mail it. Watch me package oil and ship it. Then same on your side. Watch the black, gassy oil go in Galant. It'll be great TBN and OK particulates, wear metals and viscosity. But Hyundai condemns it 800 miles hence in my motor. I'd be happy to do it as a science project.

I read the study. No, I'm not bringing much to the table besides my own experience with conventional in a short tripper for 3 longish OCI's (castrol GTX 10-40 in the Jeep 6-8K miles.) All it's life it was 3K conventional cheapest name brand on sale and filters, quite clean. Now it's varnished and gummy.
Hyundai has decided that 4800 miles is plenty long max normal (3K severe) for this Turbo GDI motor for SOME reason. Tell the honda VCT V-6 guys that 8K conventional is good for their motors. The Audi/VW guys too. Not everybody needs to be on the long OCI bandwagon, IMO.

Actually, I think this would be a fun experiment.

We'd have to agree on some general terms. I will, as a fellow BITOG member, agree to extend some "good faith" basis for this. The only reason I want a UOA on your sample (after 4k miles) is to do two things:
1) assure there are no unforseen "oops" in the oil (coolant, dirt, etc)
2) have a baseline for knowing what more/less would be contributed

To better know what my engine would contribute, we should establish a base-line with a few UOAs on my Galant engine. I just got the car (new to me) with 197k miles on it. It is in a current ARX application. Then I must rinse. Then we could start my baseline, and then apply your oil to my engine.

I'm game if you're game, but it will take a while to get to that point.

Suggestions for escrow member?

Best F100 is near enough to me and we've had a meet/mercantile exchange before. I had requested a Black Stone kit before, but just decided to buy oil when I saw/smelled my oil at 4K. Just bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Wix-24078-Oil-Analysis-Kit/dp/B0014BEMVW

Detailed Description

Oil Analysis Kit---Contains sample bottle for used oil, request sheet, mailer box, 3 ft length of 1/4 inch plastic tubing and instructions.Checks for 20 Wear metals, 5 different physical properties Including Fuel, Water, Anti-freeze, Insolubles & Viscosity change.Style: Oil Analysis Kit

I'd be open to someone a little nearer to Dayton though :-) .

It's at 19K miles w/ 5 oil changes so far

And I'd be happy to do a single oil no blend no adds if you want of almost any type of good syn and filter. I have the next 130K miles at 4.8K mile changes already bought, lol!
