This is my first time cutting filters open and posting the results as well. I have two different FL-820S filters, one from a 2001 Mustang Bullitt with 276k miles, this filter is completely cut open. The engine is not particularly dirty, and seems like it was well maintained, but I figured the R&P wouldn't hurt. The second filter I only cut the shell open as I was waiting for the oil to drain from the media before I cut the paper off.
Bullitt Filter:
OCI: 1,377 miles
Oil: Valvoline R&P 5w30
Engine: Stock 4.6 2v V8
Not sure what all the experts like to see on here but I think I took the right pictures:
Here you can see the seam looks fine and is not torn at all, I also did not notice any tears in the media. I was looking for tears in the media as that's what I've read is a common issue on these, but I figured there would be none with such a low OCI.
Here is a side view of the media, very even pleats with no deformities:
Here is the Silicone ADV which was in very good condition and the spring as well. The filter baseplate is very thick and heavy duty which was a surprise.
Some sediment and soot in the bottom of the canister.
Found this shaving in the filter pleats, not sure what it came from but it's rather large. It was magnetic as well.
Here you can see sludge in the pleats, likely from the aggressive cleaning agents in R&P.
And finally here are the louvers, look nice and open with no issues.
So overall I had no issues with my MC filter. I put another MC filter on and will post that one up as well when it's time for an oil change. The MC filter I put on was the last one I have in stock, I recently picked up some Champion PH820XL to try out, currently one is on my vic. I will do a C&P on that soon enough when my OCI comes up. I am going to be picking up some Various MFR PG4651EX from RockAuto on my next order as I've heard they are made by PG and are the current highest quality. But my OCI are so low maybe I'm chasing ghosts trying to get a higher quality filter.
Here's a sneak peak of a filter from my 01 vic with 144k miles and running Valvoline R&P 5w30 with 2,952 miles on the OCI. Looks very good I'd say.
