Cut Open Motorcraft 820S, 7.5K mi

I switched back to the Motorcraft filter in my Mustang GT. [censored] good filter for the price, and no startup noise with it as well...Had that issue with M1 and K&N. Good choice.
The condition of Motorcraft filter is very good, it can easily lasted to 10k miles.
Looks like its made by Purolator.

Ha! You'd think... but the purple color was gone in less than a thousand miles and it from there looked more gold (a purply gold)until it got the way you see it at 7.5K.
I'm pretty sure I could have gone farther too, on both the oil and filter, but I'm taking it easy to feel out the oil in this engine. The UOA will tell the tale on the miles (I don't worry mch about the time from the engine standpoint). It took over a year to get to 7500 miles for me. If I didn't have so many other pieces of equipment to maintain, I'd probably go into oil change withdrawals. I have two more fills of RP 5W20 to trend and then we'll see. That's 3-4 years worth.
RE Filtering ability: That is one figure I have never seen for sure. It is a Purolator AFAIK, but which media... ??? I'd love to see the specs.
I put a Royal Purple filter on for this run, which may have better media than the MC, though I prefer the bypass valve up near the top, as the MC has, rather than at the bottom. Overall, I don't see that as a major sticking point because it's not likely to bypass with a 5W20 oil. I'll cut it up too at the appropriate time.

As for filtration, it's only rated 80% at 20 Microns BUT then there's the rest of the story. According to the author of the linked filter study he says,
"Whether price is a major factor or not, the Motorcraft FL820S Filter is near the top of my list for a filter to be used on a Ford product. Motorcraft does not claim the FL-820S has a particularly good efficiency rating, but to my eye the filter material is the same type as the Purolator PL24651 Filter or any of the “premium” filters with the cellulose/synthetic media. The Ford Racing Filter is clearley a "better" version of the FL-820S, but I don't think it is enough better to justify the much higher cost - at least for a properly maintained stock street vehicle."

The RP filters by pass for your application is at the bottom of the filter? Interesting. For mine it is on the top.

The RP filters by pass for your application is at the bottom of the filter? Interesting. For mine it is on the top.
