I ran this on my 2001 Mustang Bullitt for 3,069 miles and it had 278,333 miles at the time of take off. Not a great looking filter and I don't plan on using them again, not that I think it really did any harm but for the price there is better.

The Valvoline Restore and Protect looks like it was doing some good work.

Uneven and wavy pleats.

There was a decent but of crud in the pleats.

Relatively speaking for the 820S, this one looks pretty good. Not that 3k miles any kind of torture test. Be interesting to see that seam pleat area at 5k miles. Oil on adbv does look rather sooty.

Thanks for c&p.

I have to admit it's one of the better 820's I have seen. It did its job without tearing. The oil looked nasty for just 3k miles of use.
I know it really did look nasty, I was double checking all my records to make sure it was only 3k and it was. The engine was just dirty and the Valvoline Restore and Protect was doing it's cleaning. I've ran FL-820s for a while and cut open maybe 3-4 and never saw tearing, but I have lower OCI intervals.

Nice work. Same oil and filter in and on?

This was after lots of scrubbing with degreaser.

Nice to see your manual cleaning and restore and protect did cleaning. That’s why restore and protect was coal black.
Yeah I have a feeling the Valvoline Restore and Protect was cleaning the cover as well as seen on the parts where you can nearly see metal again, I would think that it would all be black but it has some cleaner spots on it.

I've got one on my 04 f150. I've used them on Ford applications for decades and never had an issue with them, but they're getting proud of them. Next oil change I'll probably look for a different filter. I can get STP XL from AutoZone for less than ten bucks, the dang motorcraft was nearly nine.

That's why you stay away from the expensive auto parts stores, I want to say STP is a PG made filter which you can get from RockAuto for likely half the price under Various MFR. To make it worth it you just have to either buy it with other parts or buy multiple filters at a time, which I do anyway when I buy other parts.

I can't believe the price on an 820S now though, it's nearly $9 on amazon right now and last time I bought one on 09/30/24 they were $3.97. I see no reason to buy those filters anymore.
