Purchased From The Dealer Trans Filter + Mopar ATF

I just bought a trans filter and some mopar atf for the 96 chrysler mini van with my discount it was cheaper than the auto parts store and very nice quality.
But it has no gasket it has some sealant that serves as the gasket... I always used gaskets on transmissions and we almost always use them on our rebuilt engines.
What do u use??

I bought the filter & gasket kit from NAPA (ATP). I'm sure NAPA (and other stores) sells the gasket separately.

On all my mopars and the ones I have serviced I have always used rtv instead of a gasket

I find RTV is way better.It can conform to a warped pan way better than a flat,flimsy gasket.And gaskets dont like to be tightened.They will leak around the bolt holes.Another plus for RTV or "Right Stuff",which is good stuff.

If you visit any MOPAR forum you will find endless debates about gasket vs. RTV on the 41TE transmission (maybe yours is different model?).

You can use either. It comes from the factory with RTV, where they assemble it dry. The big problem I read about with this transmission is that it never seems to stop dripping on the lower side, creating a challenge for the RTV application. Many recommend using the MOPAR gray transmission RTV because it is claimed to be of great quality for this application.

Many people use gaskets also. It alleviates the tedious job of scraping the RTV off. I used the Felpro gasket from Advanced Auto. It comes in a flat box (not folded) and is an impressive stout rubber/fiber, thick gasket.

MOPAR actually makes a steel/rubber reusable gasket for the 41TE, but it is ridiculously expensive from the dealer. The part number is available on the ALLPAR site.

Good luck. I like gaskets. Be careful....sometimes the pan bolts break off without too much effort if they are seized in.

its a mopar and that pan has been of a few times...lol that trans has around 180,000 miles on it so im sure it will be out sonner or later so far so good i guess
