Probably wont use Techron again

Threw the busted bottle away and there were chunks of ice in bottle.

Ice= water. Why water in techron?

So either I had a bad batch or there is water in techron.

Of course your car will smell if you pour techron in the trunk!

As for the validity, now that the bottle was tossed out, we have no evidence to go on. I'm pretty sure that there are other fluids besides water that will turn to a solid state at a cold enough temperature, though. Not sure why it would be in a techron bottle, though.

To the OP:

Was the foil seal intact on both bottles of Techron you purchased?

My guess is the bottle that froze was contaminated by a customer and unwittingly put back on the shelf.

False. Ice does not equal water, "ice" or solidified liquid can be anything - Ive frozen Benzene to solid "ice" for example before.

Thing is, water usually gets less dense (expands slightly), which is why solid water floats. Others tend to sink.

I dont doubt someone stole the techron....

meant to say i poured one in the tank (foil seal was intact) and put the other bottle in the trunk.

I didnt open the bad bottle just looked at it to see what happened, it was swollen up as if it had expanded..and it had ice in it because i could hear it as i removed it from the trunk and headed towards the trash can.

So in my particular case there was a very foul odor throughout the car which wife complained of, i opened the trunk and saw the spillage of techron and due to it being freezing out i cleaned up the best i could with paper towels and threw the bottle away along with messy paper towels and left the trunk open to air out.

So if someone sabotaged my bottle they used some of the techron and replaced some with water..due to my ice chunk and spillage of foul chemicals in her trunk.

I could put a bottle in the freezer to see if it happens again, if it busts then im probably kicked out of the house, if it doesnt then well it doesnt..

Im not looking for a knee jerk reaction. Just saying in my case there was something that froze, expanded my bottle of techron, and caused me to lose a bottle (that i got for free BOGO)

I am puzzled as well because i read the MSDS myself and i couldnt figure out why someone would use half a bottle and fill the other half with water..it really makes no sense.

I suspect you somehow got scammed. While I haven't used Techron per se, I've used its competition here in our winters, leaving them in the trunk, and never had such an issue.

Of course it's strange and unlikely that someone would use half/most of a bottle of Techron, refill it with water, and return it. That's not something we'd do, as regular, honest people. But, it's certainly more likely than a normal bottle of Techron freezing on a normal winter day.

They probably could have used most of the bottle, actually. If it's anything like the consistency of the Regane or Red Line stuff, there would be more than enough residue left in the bottle to make a stink and a mess under the wrong circumstances, such as water being tossed in and the bottle freezing and breaking.

I've had a couple bottles in the trunk for about 3 wks. I'll check tomorrow, hopefully they're intact. Haven't smelled anything in the car, I'm in NE OH so you know what the temps have been like here the past month.

I have a bottle of Gumout Regane HM fuel system cleaner in the door pocket of my car which has been parked outside all winter here in Mass. It is still intact.

I had the opposite happen. Last summer a horrible smell...
Finally opened trunk to find Techron leaked or heat made it pop open. Took forever to get the smell out.

EVERYTHING has a freezing point. doesn't mean it's water lol

Of course Techron would have a freezing point. I just don't think we'll experience it, even in winter. As for the top blowing off due to heat stinking out the trunk, that I'll believe without question.

yeah just hypothesizing how/where the ice came from. moisture? otherwise my thought was like that of another, someone returned it filled with water. I mean how bad was the smell?
Guess I should sit out a bottle overnight during our polar vortex. 1 of 2 things will be found out...

I recall reading a very similar story about someone that had a bottle of supposed Supertech 100% antifreeze freeze in the trunk, and they're claim was the Supertech was junk. This freezing Techron sounds just as bogus as that.

'Bad batch' or not, there is no water in Techron. Although you folks in WV had had water/chemical related problems lately so who knows.
