Prenumbral Eclipse slams Eastern Seaboard

You can kinda see the shadow at 4 oclock-ish.

"Prenumbral" means either a near-hit or a near-miss, depending on your level of optimism.

The air here is clear but the Sigma lens adds its own fuzziness.
 
It's "Penumbra", not "Pre". And it refers to that part of the shadow that is only partial, due to the size of the light source (which creates multiple angles of arrival). A lunar eclipse is the shadow of the Earth impinging on the Moon, so this eclipse is just the edge of the partial shadow....

Don't know if it's related but there is almost always some sort of spectacular accident on our road around the full moon.

Makes the natives cranky...
