Premium Guard PG4612 off of a 2024 Mazda CX-5. 3,800 miles.

Looks good to me. A little excess glue maybe. I have around 27 of these, half are made in Taiwan though.

I figure at 5K OCI, that’s 20 filters to get to 100K. Probably 5 years. I had gotten two cases from PG at $.71 a filter. Crazy low price.

I still have a few other filters also. 5 OEM left, plus a handful of other filters for it. Should be good for a long time!

Saw it on Walmart.com. Case was $8 (started at $9.99 then price dropped) and change. Shipped directly from Premium Guard. There was a thread in the deals and promotions section. I grabbed two cases.

No. Skyactiv uses a positive displacement oil pump. Vane type which actually has a variable displacement which the engine computer controls.

If you don't understand what a positive displacement pump is, I encourage you to research them. Probably the number 1 misconception on BITOG.

I recently posted my first oil change on the CX-5 in a Mazda forum. I immediately was flamed for using a Purolator Boss filter. Internet experts warned me that this oil filter could starve the engine of oil causing a catastrophic failure. One use even blamed a lifter failing on their use of aftermarket filters.

Most users claimed that the use of an ADBV when not required by the manufacturer was the cause of the oil restriction and subsequent failures. Some also pointed to a TSB stating that the Skyactiv engines required a unique filter and not to use the Mazda filters that were designed...

If an engine's oil pump can't overcome the resistance of a rubber ADBV the engine designers better try again, lol.
