I hate how the local NBC affiliate's web site always auto-plays a video at the head of the article and it's always an ad for a car lot with some super happy and chipper salesman or promo woman chortling away about the latest blow out sale. Then next up is the news story about all the people massacred or whatever.

Nice. Very classy.

....or when 3 seconds of "black screen" serves as a memorial....just before a dopey commercial. REAL reverent.

What needs to be repeated is that the "news" is just a broadcast product of highlights with little depth-of-content.

God help this country.

Everyone complains about the weather but no one does anything about it.

I have to wonder if there's anything new under the sun. I've stopped listening to the news lately, somehow it all sounds too familiar. I do hate all the clickbait ads at the bottom of webpages but I realize sites have to make money somehow. It's almost enough to pull the plug on casual websurfing.

The non-stop Hammer Toyota ad they used to show on YouTube got me to pony up for the commercial-free version.
LoL. And I'm someone who has old cars.

TV stations need to sell ad spots to stay in business. So what if you hear about someone being murdered and a minute later they play a Scope mouthwash commercial or whatever else.

Ha! I own three Toyota's and hate those ads on youtube. They're enough to make me not want to buy any Toyota, even if I was in the market.

We get your news up here along with our own. It's quite odd the way they do things and the amount of "fear" that is pushed in your news is ridiculous. I'm not sure how you can watch it and not have some sort of anxiety disorder.

We went to Disney (in Florida) one year and I watched a bit of the nightly news the first night we were there. Just that one town had more news going on than all of the state of NH.

I didn't watch any news the other nights I was there.

The only time I turn on the TV is when I use the stair climber and I avoid the talking heads. It offends me how the guy talks a few lines then the girl talks a few lines like it is cute or something. What is sad though is people always are dieing.

I don't even watch TV other than the 10-ish minutes of netflix a night. This week it's a TV series on deadly animals. I can't stand TV, nothing on it interests me anymore and all the "news" channels are ridiculous and [almost] always only give one side of an issue.

But ads are just that, ads. Somebody needs to make income.

+1 I thought is was just me.

During the IndyCar race this weekend when there was a huge accident involving Robert Wickens' car being launched into the catch fencing, NBC Sports played a commercial basically glorifying crashes multiple times. The commercial shows Scott Dixon's car being launched into the catch fencing at the Indy 500 last year. I have never liked the commercial but I thought it was bad timing considering they ran them during the period where we didn't even know of Wickens was still with us.

Is that the same for hockey games?

"I was watching a fight and then a hockey game broke out."

The American media strives to create ... no... perpetuate ... a "Catastrophe culture" where even the slightest summer breeze could be a severe thunderstorm or even a tornado brewing --> Better tune in to our news broadcast to make sure you and your family stay safe !!!! That kind of bovine scat is now baked into American main stream news media, be it broadcast, print, or online. Winter storm watch in effect, better watch our broadcast to make sure you and your family don't get snowed in and starve to death right in the middle of town. The sky is falling, better watch our broadcast or go to our web page to learn what to do to survive. Did a rural stream in Colorado flood after spring rains and force the evacuation of three houses?... well, people in Delaware need to know!!

Enough !!!

And what's the true reason for this frenzy for news watchers? If you're the top local affiliate or newspaper or radio station you sell more advertising and charge more for it because you have the viewership bragging rights. The almighty dollar, as usual.

You just described the CNN "SITUATION ROOM" I laugh every time I hear that. They make such a big deal out of nonsense it's hilarious actually.
