I believe his name is Dan. He is one of the better Amsoil guys.

The newer Group III+'s come very close to matching PAO's. I don't know if he was aware of that. And not all Group III's are of the same quality. Good video though, thanks!

If you consider price and NOACK volatility, it would seem pretty clear that the SS line are PAO based.

Ok this is for the amsoil guy! I have a 2007 ford f-150 with 109,000 miles on it and the moter just failed!Dead! Have run amsoil since i drove it off the lot,as a matter of fact in tranny and rear end.I went to the shop to take a peak at the moter>>TRASH!SLUDGE!VARNISH! cam lobes worn, timming chains worn, question is was this the moter's design flaw,as in oiling system,or just the [censored] 5.4 liter from ford.Looked like it dropped a valve,Mech said he's no fan of amsoil and he does this for a living,I have read and heard of all the great Amsoil stories about engines lasting for ever1 Now I not so sure,7 grand later and a new moter I think i will try something else1At least for the next 100,000 miles...

Nice first post. What Oil Change Interval were you doing? What kind of driving? What did the sampled oil show? What did Amsoil say? Dropped valve? Parts warn? I'm listening.

Are we trolling by chance? I think so. What you posted is highly unlikely with any oil as long as proper maintance was performed.

Ok beat me up if you want! Not trying to knock Amsoil products.I have guy's that i work with that have been using it for years and no problems.Just trying to get to the crux of the matter. Followed the Amsoil change sched and Amsoil filter.Started with 0w20 than changed to the 5w20,was using a quart between changes,Stopped when i went with the 5x20XL.have the ATF and rear end amsoil. And af for my first post trying to find out why a moter would fail that has never been off the hwy and was treated better than I treat My WIFE!!Thanks

Trolling! PLEASE!! Have run Amsoil products in the truck since new.OIL,ATF,Severe rear end.PI..anything and everything.have not contacted Amsoil or done a oil sample.Just trying to get this moter to last more than 100,000 miles..

So, how many miles between changes?

With the 0w20 went with the servere sched 15 thousand tow a camper and thats just 1 once a year, with the XL 7500 miles, mostley before it was due, thats what im trying to figure out,why would it fail, might just be the 5.4 liter ford moter..Don't want to spend another 7 grand anytime soon!

XL is $5.50
OE is $4.42

Now you are saying Amsoil doesn't test their oils!

Listen, if you think those oils are so superior why don't YOU post proof?

I see it every day. You just chat it every day.

If I could get XL or OE for those prices I'd never use anything else (well maybe I would...I'm a BITOGer after all).

I agree that either PU or XL will keep your vehicle running great for years....both are top shelf products.

Do you have pics? 7 grand for a 5.4? What company did you buy your block from what was mechanics hourly work rate? Also engine failures happen even with the best engines. I have heard a lot of complaints about Ford's 5.4 but completely destroying one at 109K miles is pretty hard to do and is very rare. But I will give you the benefit of doubt. Please provide some evidence.

In general, the 5.4L is a very reliable engine. We have two of them with over 150K miles on them currently.

Don't know if the moter has been shipped back for core.Got a Jasper reman,1000 cheaper than FMCO replacement.Jasper prefered
installers, moter was $4500 complete> rest labor for the replacement, checked around town and pretty much the going rate.F-150 moter replacement not a fun thing to do.Just supprised at what the inside of the moter looked like. Not pretty...OH the intake was full of metel and had to replace it also..All this is after the dealer had it for a week...

I would bet all the money in the world the problem had nothing to do with the oil being used, espeically a high end synthetic.

If you were pushing 20k mile drains over the course of 100k miles, maybe I'd start thinking about the oil and OCI. In this case, it's most likely a mechnical faliure.

Engines RARELY fail due to oil.

lockwood, i doubt you want to hear this, but this is not uncommon for the 5.4. if you didn't do the maintainance you did, it most likely would have occurred sooner. sorry for your trouble.

Yeah an HEMI's are indestructible. This is not very common at all.

Like i Said i wasen't down on Amsiol products, just trying to find out what happened,so it will not happen again, truth is the moter did not look clean! Was dirty and varnish every where, don't want to make the same mistake and have to spend annother 7 grand on a new moter, fully expected to get at least 300,000 out of this Amsoil protected moter. Was taken care of according to amsoil change requirements.
