Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40 Euro

Trying to answer a few comments above:

SOPUS has not dropped the ball, the parts chains, discounts chains are the ones that have dropped the ball. Shell retail division has offered the product but the chains have not brought it in to their inventories. This is why I said if the individual stores would start asking for it, that would create the need and maybe then the parts chains might start to bring it in.

As for as the manager of a parts store checking his/her computer for the APC number, it won't be there until their distribution center brings the product online.

I have checked with three different Pennzoil distributors that do not stock the 5W-40 Ultra Euro, but can order it in anytime they want to.

That's interesting...which ones?

None of the 3 car parts shops in South Lyon, MI can order it for me....
(Autozone, Advance Auto Parts or O'Reilly's).

Here...see the wicker-ticker on the right side of the screen.

Unfortunately when you try to buy it, it tells you "This item is on back order." The price is rather steep, too.

I said distributors, not parts stores. If the individual Autozone, Advanced, O'Reilly's, etc., had enough demand for this product, their distribution centers would bring it in to inventory. Until that happens it won't be there.

The reason it is on b/o is probably because this web link is the fulfillment center in KS where Debbie was having the free stuff sent from. The price is a little high but probably helps to offset the free shipping.

True. Price including shipping from oil-store is $53.19.

The reason for it being on b/o is irrelevant. To the end consumer the only thing that matters is whether he can buy it or not.

Something tells me we'll never see this product on the shelf of our local auto part store. Possibly that is because securing shelf space requires the mfg to actually pay for it. As a result, this product will never really compete with M1 0w-40, even though it's probably capable of it.

Once I'm done with this free batch, I'll be switching to something more cost effective and easily available at the store... probably Rotella T6.

That is why I wrote from the beginning that marketing this oil or any oil to BITOG members is a waste of time and money. Unless it is free or cheap no matter the product most here will not use it after the freebies are gone.....

Well, they have to get it out there one way or another.

IMO, what they should have done is to have a program where they give like 50% discounts on the oil, and then send the participants UOA sample kits and vouchers for free UOAs at a good lab. That way, if the product works, there will be UOAs up on BITOG to show it, and the participants will immediately have a reason to keep using it -- and SOPUS might get some potentially useful field data in the process.

IMO, that's not what a UOA is for. At least not the $20 one. It may tell you if you have some serious issues with your engine, but it'll not necessarily tell you "if the product works." Plus, you're running a risk of having a few crazies bashing it for showing a few extra ppm of iron... sound familiar?

I know, and I agree with the rest of what you said. You're preaching to the choir there. Hence, the "at a good lab" proviso in my post.

I misunderstood your earlier post...I gathered you were saying that one can get it ordered even though it's not in stock. I'm not aware of any Distribution channels that sell to the general public, so was assuming, incorrectly, that you meant the local parts shops etc that sell oil.

No problem now....with my 2 free cases, I have enough to see me through to when the product becomes generally available (I hope)....or my series of UOA indicates and concern with use in my S4.

If you look a few posts back you will find a link to a supplier that sells to the public - I just got a six pack delivered in three days .

I have to say objectively, a gift of free super-premium oil is a pretty generous offer. It's not like SOPUS is offering some minimal coupon that you still have to spend a bunch of cash.

The logistics of shipping out bricks of oil on a whim is not the easiest thing to put together. I'll be happy when my freebie gets here, whatever the delay. In a pinch, Rotella T is priced competitively and widely available, as a counterpoint to the PUE issues.

Without wanting to belabor the point, I know that oil-store and amazon stores are selling the stuff. I was responding to the question of local stores availability/ordering potential. :)
