Any thoughts on mixing Pennzoil Euro L 5w-30 (70%) with Penn Platinum Euro 5w-40 (30%)? One is BMW LL-04 and the other is LL-01. It’s for a BMW twin turbo driven in the Southeastern US. Is this advisable and will it hurt my engine? Can I still go the 10k mile OCI?

What are you looking for exactly? The title says mixing viscosities but then you ask about mixing approvals.

I’m not sure what being in the southeastern US has to do with it.

Zero problem, I mix up the small remainder of a previous change that used a different oil with the next one all the time. You can still do long drains though I would never do more than 6k in a twin turbo bmw just to play it on the safe side. It's not some low power output per liter v8 engine like in my trucks which beat oil up less so i do long drains with a euro or hdeo.

Hello, just wanted to consider the different BMW LL approvals. From what I understand LL-04 is low SAPS, so by mixing in 30% of LL-01 (full SAPS) is there any added benifit for gassers in southeast US? Assuming sulfur levels and additives differ by region or state. Thx!

Minimal. What vehicle exactly and how is it driven. How many miles per year. If it takes a full year to do 10k and it's not majority highway I'd cut back unless you don't plan on owning it for a long time.

Your mix will have neither BMW approval, and it could be worse than either individually.

One has the N54 (Z4 35i) and the other has N63 (M550i). I don’t track either but tend to get lead foot when first at a stoplight. I don’t plan to go over 6k per year on either.

If you have an oil burner you could use the 5w40 as topoff oil.

My odds and ends are consumed by my old truck and lawn equipment that eat the oil.
Grade is nearly insignificant here given both approvals have a minimum HT/HS requirement and they both have the same winter rating. And given the reduction in sulfur in gasoline those two approvals are functionally equivalent.
