Just wondering if anyone else has one. As I've mentioned on a few other posts, mine is an '07 and I'm using Motorcraft 5W-20 and driving a LOT of highway miles, probably 40K/year. Probably using a 5-6K oci.

Anyone else have one of these mills and what kind of oil are you using? Any luck or problems with any of the otc synthetics? Curious especially about M1, PP, Syntec, Valvoline full syn, and QS syn. If I don't decide to go syn, I'm going to stick with the MC syn blend.

TIA!

PP has had really good UOAs, and Hondas don't seem that picky about oil. I would use the currently heavily promoted PP, and you should be good to go. I am now using PP in my two Hondas, although they are 4 cyl. They seem perfectly happy.

I have an '06 Accord V6 with about 9K miles. First OCI was at 4K miles, and I used M1 5W-20 and Honda filter. I did not notice any difference between the factory-fill and M1.
Congrats on your really nice car!

I change the oil in our 2004 in spring, summer, and fall. This fall I put M1 0w20 in and will run it until March or April which will probably be between 7 and 8k miles. In the spring and summer I use yellow bottle Pennzoil 5w20 for about 5k miles.

I have used MC, PP, and M1 5w20 in the past with no complaints. We have about 58k trouble free miles on it so far.

LouDawg,
You will like this V-6, and it's filter location is good too! Besides the FF, out at 3K, I've only used two oils, GTX 5W/20 twice to 10K then M1 5W/20 for three OCIs. The Accord has 26K miles on it now. No problems with either.

Mobil 1 seems OK but copper wear still seems high so I bought some Syntec 5W/20 for the next OCI to see what happens. My three M1 UOA's are posted. Overall, pretty good numbers. These engines show "high" copper, but you probably know that already, etc.

Used LC for the first time and it seems to have "used" itself up or something as I had to add oil after 2K miles in an amount similiar to the 6 oz. of LC I used. The LC seems to have slightly darkened the M1 oil and I'm assuming it is "cleaning things up" a bit. (I mention all this LC stuff because my engine never needed ANY top up oil before the LC use. I'm researching this LC issue now and so far I think it's a normal first use reaction...) Hope this information helps out.

No one seems to think anything of Valvoline Synpower 5w-20. I'd try that, especially if you can get some on sale. ACEA A5, HT/HS of 2.9. If you're a spec whore like me, it looks great!!!

I thought I read somewhere on here that it is a good idea to use moly rich oils (like Havoline) in the new honda motors to mimic the factory fill. Or is that just for the break-in period?

I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline with the 3.5 VTEC engine. From what I have read, Honda recommends you keep the factory fill until the OLM indicates it is time to change oil. For me, this was at around 6000 miles. I changed the oil with Havoline dino 5w20 because it had a lot of moly in its additive pack. Again, from what I have read, Honda uses a factory lube when assembling their engines that is moly rich and is suppose to "break-in" their engines better when this assembly lube mixes with the oil.

So, it seemed to me to make sense to use the Havoline for the first couple of changes anyway. My third change will be at around the 18,000 mile mark and the engine should be well broken-in by then. Since I found PP at Advance Auto on a two for one sale the other day I decided I would try it. It came to only about a $1 more a quart than my Havoline dino - can't beat that!

If I were you, I would do the same thing in your Honda and use a moly rich oil like Havoline (or Redline if you want synthetic) for the first couple changes. After "break-in", use what you want.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I could never leave the factory fill in a brand new car for 6k mi with all the break-in in debree in it. I don't care what Honda says. Are their filters that good? It has got to be a way to add molly to your oil to mimic Hondas factory fill and change your oil way earlier than 6k mi. If I really had to leave the fac fill in I would at least change the filter few times durng those 6k mi and add molly rich oil to top off.

What exactly are you concerned about regarding Honda motors "breaking in". Break in periods are becomeing a thing of the past. Drive as you normally do, and change it when the manual says to change it.

Honda is making anything up when it HIGHLY recomends keeping the factory fill in the engine until the first recomended OIC or oil life monitor says so.

Think you know more than Honda engineers? Yeah right...lol. But its your car, do what you like. Although the assumptions on here are getting ridiculous.
