Fellow Canadians,happy Civic Holiday.

Am I wrong, but is all 0W-20 oil special order?
All the main big chains (i.e., Cdn Tire, Parts Source, Wal-Mart)
don't appear to carry that grade.
What is readily available and easiest to get?

I haven't seen any and I know a lot of places that carry oil, and not just the big chains.

You being in Burlington, you could pick up 0w20 Amsoil from their wearhouse in Mississauga on Tomken if you wanted.

I know Honda dealers always have their brand 0w20 on hand. The shop I work at always carries at least 12 liters of Pennzoil Platinum 0w20, for hybrids and Toyota owners who choose to use it. But we dont sell it retail.

Well, I work for a chain lube shop so we get our supplies from our warehouse. To rephrase, we can sell it retail, but it's at a really marked up price like $13.99 per bottle or something. It's cheaper to get the oil change done at the shop at that price.

"Incidentally, I got a price on the Petro-Canada Supreme Synthetic 0W-20. It is about $7.46/L but you need to buy it by the 12L case."

Hey, Castrol now has a 0w-20, too.

Do you remember the name of store that carried the PP?

The PC 0W-20 spec's are not much better than Cdn Tire's 5W-20 syn (Shell) which is frequently on sale.

Castrol 0W-20 is just on the US Castrol website not Canada's.
Doesn't give the 40C vis which I'd like to know?

Thanks Patman, that good to know.

With Cdn Tire if one store carries a product you can usually arrange to get it at your local outlet. It's like Red Line oil,
not all stores stock it but they can all get it.

Both Toyota and Honda carry and sell their own house brand 0W-20 oils. Neither are claimed to be synthetic. The prices are $5.65 and $7.19 per litre respectively.
I didn't know you could make a 0W-XX that wasn't synthetic. I'd love to see a PDS or VOA of both oils.

If you get frequent -40C and below weather take a careful look at the -40 visc. #'s. I know for sure that PP is higher than M1, I dont know if there is anything better than M1 that is OTC.
I really do hope that M1 gets their act together and gets the 0W's up here!

Tucman, relative to yourself, I live virtually in the banana belt!

In the Toronto area we of course never see -40C. At most the temperature might drop to -20C or so at night; some winters it never does.

I nevertheless still want the lightest oil in the 0C to 10C range, which is the coldest start-up for my garaged cars, and that is a 0W-20 oil.

I paid $10/L for a 6L case of PP at my local Bumper to Bumper. I had to order it, it seems that they carry it in their warehouse in Edmonton...but that was last October.
I am gonna start calling my local Esso bulk dealer again inquiring about the 0W's again...I haven't bugged him in about a month!

It's almost certainly synthetic, or a very high percentage blend. Some consumers don't like the idea of synthetic oil, and most don't care, so they probably just don't bother marketing it based on what the base stocks are since it's not competing with a bunch of other oils on the shelf anyway. I've used the Honda 0W-20 in my Mazda3, and I paid $7-something per liter. My engine turned over easily at very low temps with that stuff.
