Oil Recommendation: 2005 Honda Element 2.4

Just about to pick up a 2005 Honda Element, 2.4, auto trans for the kids. 100k on it, well taken care of. I'm gonna change out all the fluids and new plus, belts, etc. Thinking about Quaker State Ultimate Durability Syn for 7.5 k OCI, or Max-Life Semi-Syn for 5k OCI's. 5W30 flavor. I heard the 2.4 is pretty easy on the oil. Thoughts? Thanks!

Just watch the oil level. The 2.4s can burn some oil.

With your winter temps I'd go with 0w30, at least in the winter months, you could go back to 5w30 in warmer months but 0w30 would work all year round too.

No harm no foul.
Honda did recommend a 5W-20 at the time, though.
Why not split the difference and use Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30?
Twelve buck a jug MIR for up to two jugs and a really good oil, although I like Maxlife and Quaker State Ultimate Durability as well.
Some K24s are inclined to use oil so you should watch that.
Is Motorola still big in Schaumberg?

You may want to replace the pcv valve with an oem unit. Usually the internal spring breaks around 60k miles. Maybe your local dealer will price match Bernardi Honda which has decent prices on parts.

Yep, universal fit. Cheaper part including a thinner internal spring, etc. Replace at half the interval of the oem.

Replacing the PCV in my 2.4 solved the oil consumption issues-still running strong at 225K+ and not using any oil.

Honda motors in general and especially the 2.4 like Valvoline. I've got ( in my CRV ) with similar conditions to the OP in IL clean used oil analysis telling me 10k OCI's with Maxlife Cherry 5w20 and factory filters still leave me with good oil.

According to Honda's chart you can use 5w20 or 0w20

This Honda 2.4 loves Quaker State Ultimate Durability in 5-30. I switched from 5-20 to 5-30 at 101K-----after looking at the cam lobes with a flashlight. You can hear 4 cyl Hondas in any parking lot without looking---they all have the same sound, including piston slap when cold--the Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5-30 or 10-30 quieted things down considerably
