Oil for Honda 2.4L

I'd use that Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10w30 for the summer, get a Pepboys calendar and get that Mobil 1 0w-20 for half price and run it in the winter. Then you'll have receipts to cover any warranty issues.

Really? Is that credible? Or is that in the same league as "my engines sounds better" with this GF-4 5w30 than the other GF-4 5w30?
Going by the numbers:
Well the HTHS between the Mobil 1 10w30 and the Red Line 5w20 is a wash as far as I'm concerned. If you look at viscosity the Red Line 5w20 is better suited for the winter months, that is, unless the Mobil 1 is better able to tolerate any water condensation issues. Flip a coin, and buy a case of the least expensive 5w20 conventional you can find for warranty issues. Give it to charity.
I would follow Honda engineering recomendation rather my or anyone elses' "feelings". Honda recomendations are not subjective and have a bases backed up with data. Too many UOA demonstrate that a good 5w20 is a very good thing.

Subjective, but I once asked myself the question...if I have an engine that works well on a starburst oil, and I don't do extended drains, do I gain anything with Havoline Synthetic or Castrol Syntec, etc. over another Group II+ starburst like Pennzoil?? My conclusion was no.

So what is that buster, 22 quarts of oil? Enough for 4 changes and you haven't decided what to use yet? Sounds like you're well on your way to a BITOGaholic oil hoarding death spiral. By next year they'll be making a movie about it called "Leaving Titusville". Maybe they can get Brad Pitt to play the starring role of a guy named buster.
Tell me about it! I said I won't be switching brands. I have about 20 something quarts and still havn't made up my mind. I'd like to use the RL in the Focus pocus for a cleaning phase. I'll run 2 treatments of RL for 8k miles or so. For my car, the M1 or Havoline.
I just changed my son's Acura's oil. I put in 4 quarts of Havoline 5w30 (GF-4/SM) and a quart of Red Line 5W-20. He puts on 2K miles a month so I'll change in about 5K miles. I sampled this time (dealer oil) and I'll sample again the next change. I'm pretty happy with Butler.quote:

I'm doing the oil change tomorrow. 5,500 miles on it. Factory was in for 4,000. Exxon SuperFlo for the last 1,500 for a rinse cycle. I know, it's overkill but that is what I chose.
So, it's either Havoline Synthetic 10w30, Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10w30 or Red Line 5w-20. Which one should I go with?

How many miles on are you going to run this next batch? I'd go with the Havoline.

My wife has a 2002 CRV-EX and I have a 2003 Accord LX which both have the same 2.4L engine and I have been using Schaeffers Supreme 5w30 and 10w30 with great used oil analysis. I will be going to the newer Schaeffer's 5w-20 this fall. This is a great oil for these Honda engines.
I would also recommend using the larger Japanese Honda filter still used by the S2000. I buy them 10 at a time and it only costs $5 each online.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10w30 is in. Will do a 10k mile run. I have 5,500 miles on car. Went with this oil simply because I had it, can find it anywhere and think it will be very good for long drains with a TBN of 13. The Havoline is probably just as good and maybe even better with wear but I can find M1 at more places then any other oil. Gas stations, Target, Walmart, K-mart ......on and on.
