Oil for 2021 Mazda CX-5 and Viscosity

The owner’s manual on my 2016 Mazda (same engine) says they recommend Castrol products, so perhaps the dealership uses bulk Castrol?

Any API approved synthetic 5w-30 is fine, but so is 0w-20 or 5w-20. These engines aren’t particularly tough on oils.
Owners manual on my 2018 recommends Castrol. I never use Castrol. I let dealer do first OC. They used Total bulk oil and a Mazda Value cheap filter. At least they over filled it to make me feel like I got a good deal.

Same here......
When I started with MZR engines I was using PP or PUP and it would use @ 1 qt. within an OCI.
I went to a 30wt CASTROL UERO and oil usage was gone. In my higher mileage 2.5 MZR I do blend in some 0/40. That MZR is as quiet as new and uses ZERO oil at almost 300k mi. at this point,

When we got our first SKYACTIVE 2.5 (CX-5) I started with the CASTROL UERO with excellent results, but I have since gone to AMSOIL in a 20wt to try and stretch out the OCI's a bit.
I am now over 75k mi on the CX-5 and I will be going to a 0/30, most likely the UERO AMSOIL.

LONG LIVE THE MZR!!

The MZR/Ford Duratec engines are awesome. Had one in a 2011 Fusion that I drove until 324,000 miles. 10,000 mile OCIs on 0W-20 and burned MAYBE 4-6Oz of oil in that time. Ran amazingly well until I had to junk the car for a bad transmission. Amazing engine.
