CX-5 Turbo Owners..

synthetic 5W-30 or 10W-30 of no particular brand, usually high mileage Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, or Valvoline.

Typical interval 4k to 5k miles.

Had two 2.5T engines, and they both require oil top up at some point in the interval. One had no recall or TSB issues, and the newer one is included in the valve stem seal TSB range. Judging from online talk, the fix doesn't necessarily solve the consumption.

If its later in the mileage run, say over 4k, then I just go ahead and change. If it happens around 3k miles, I'll add some and motor on to 5k.

Well, I plan on 5K intervals, I have 4 5-quart bottles of QS 20K oil in the barn that was used for my previous Hyundai, and for the current 1.6T Kona. I am just curious what others are using. This is my first Mazda.

Both have oil consumption issues? That's disappointing. I was considering a CX-5 2.5T for my wife at some point.

2022 CX-5 Turbo (US Spec) owner here and bought new. Any full synthetic 5W-30 all year round but I do use the OEM turbo specific oil filters. Almost at 30K miles, run roughly 6500 mile oil change intervals (early change if it's a convenience) and never had to top off oil during or at the end of the intervals. Been using Kirkland 5W-30 (aka Walmart Supertech which most come from Warren Distribution). No issues and car has been running fine. I know for a fact the 2021 CX-5 turbo trims had issues with oil consumption and don't recall if there was a TSB or recall done to remedy those issues? Most of the oil consumption stories you hear are from owners and people who parrot the same thing over and over again are 2021 Turbo models.

2024 CX-50 Turbo owner (same drive line as the CX-5 Turbo.)

I use 5W-30 Synthetic (So far Valvoline and Mobil1) and Mazda OEM filters at 5000 mile intervals. No top up needed so far, but the vehicle only has 15k miles on it, so time will tell.

I have a 2023 Mazda CX-9 with the same engine and have been using Valvoline Euro 5W-30 XL-III with 5Kish (a little shorter actually) OCI. It has about 14,400 miles and will have its 3rd oil change later this week.

I wonder if it has a very sensitive oil level sensor though. Just a few day ago the oil warning light came on. I was close to home so just kept driving. Checked the oil level, and while it was closer to the bottom hole than the top on the dipstick, I would not call it low. I topped it off with about 8 ounces of oil. The dipstick did not read significantly higher, but the light went off and has not come back.

2023 Mazda CX-30 Turbo here. Same powertrain.

I purchased a CPO car with 3k miles on it. At 5k, I changed whatever the Mazda store put in it with PP 5W30 and a Mazda filter.

Saving the two (free) changes for winter weather.

I'm not convinced Mazda understands the refill volume as the Owner's Manual dictates 5.1 quarts, but that was just above the add point on the dipstick. I put in closer to 5.5 quarts and it's about 3/4s of the way between add and full.

Seems to be the same weirdness on non-turbo models also.

Wifes CX-5 calls for 4.8QTS with a new filter. Full 5 quarts brings it to about half way up the dipstick after running car to normal operating temperature and letting oil settle for 15 minutes after shutdown. 1/2 way between two holes on dipstick. I add another 1/4 quart or so to get it to the full line. They really should have 5.2 Qts in manual, not 4.8.

Ironically, on my Mazda 3 with same engine, first time I checked the oil after getting home it was a good 1/8" ABOVE the full line. So, who knows what they're doing....

5.1 for the non turbo, 5.5 for the turbo. Dad had both! ;)
