With all of these different manufactures of oils out there like Amzoil/Mobil/Pennzoil has there ever been a oil warrenty used because the oil caused a engine failure? To me it's hard to believe that the oil was at fault.Failure by either the owner or other mechanical reason. Also has the company followed through on the warrenty claim? Thanks Joe

I believe Amsoil paid out a claim a few years ago. I'm sure their oil wasn't to blame but they paid anyway, maybe for marketing purposes. Who knows. As long as OCI is done by the manufacturers requirements I don't believe oil is ever to blame for engine failure.

I imagine that Amsoil paid some claims on Toyota/Lexus engines. It probably (my speculation) was due to the blanket coverage of one year more than it was the 25k+ deal. They fall out of the "one OCI fits all" category.

I am curious as to the situation this payout was made. Any links to info about it?

I know they had problems with their 100 to 1 two stroke oil about 10 years ago. The stuff had to be vigorously agitated/mixed or it wouldn't work.

I tried it on my 110 hp outboard but mixed it in a clear fuel bottle before adding it to the main tank and noticed it did not mix throughly, so I had to shake the container until all the oil mixed. If I had not mixed it first in another container and just poured the oil into he tank then filled with gas, I could have destroyed my engine. Once the oil was mixed, it worked great, but it wasn't worth the hassle.

Have fun finding payout information. I would expect this to be tightly guarded secret and probably settled out of court and including a gag order as part of the settelment! I am just a BBA with some business law classes and even I would reguire that as part of any settlement deal.So you would have to find a third party or expert witness that was their to speak about it!

+1 Also: I don't think discussing oil related engine failures builds good PR with for an oil company either. The less people know the better when it comes to business problems or product failures. Those things are hidden pretty well I would imagine.

I have had my oil pressure drop 25 psi below specification over 25K miles on my 250cc motorcycle with 3000 mile OCI of Rotella T and Mobil 1. Oil can cause engine failure, albeit extremely slowly and painfully.

I would say thats more of a case of failing to prevent engine failure.. rather than "causing" engine failure.

That could be what the engine was going to do regardless of oil

You have to balance it. You can't boldly display your warranty results in use since it will also cause a bunch of losers using your product and fabricating conditions to make you buy them a new engine. So, you HAVE to make it somewhat complicated to assure that you're weeding them out. You also don't make it like you need to do the moon walk on the moon to use it either.

Out of all the various TSB's that Amsoil puts out ..I've got to hand it to Toyota/Lexus for producing engines that require specific retreating from Amsoil's core attributes. I mean ..with distinction.
