oil cooler or synthetic?

I read that the reason was it's easier and cheaper to put mobil one in than it is to install an oil cooler in every Corvette. The price difference between 6 qts of dino verses 6 qts of Mobil 1 is maybe 24 bucks.

"Also worth noting: All LT1 engines left the factory with Mobil 1, the recommended lubricant. The synthetic 5w30 engine oil eliminated the need for a separate oil cooler."

"As with LT1/4s, no oil cooler is available and the factory fill will be synthetic oil. Testing shows the oil temperature range to be similar to what we see in Gen II Small-Blocks."

While there is a cost savings with this decision, it was truly based on testing. Oddly, newer corvettes have oil coolers again. I am going to ask my GM Powertrain rep about this the next time he comes to my plant, which is a few weeks. He will know since he was involved in the GEN II/III and LS series engines.

Back on topic, however. One poster mentioned that the Suburu may already have an oil cooler on it since it is Turbo powered. My 87 Grand National (3.8Turbo) has a factory oil cooler, but not sure what good it does.But- I have never seen the need to add one either based on oil temps and the Redline oil I use.

I know Gary - I wasn't being serious. I always respected your answers in previous postings. We are alike in many ways...I like to [censored] off liberals, the media and local officials too

Yeah it might have a coolant sandwich cooler between the oil filter and the block like my Mazdas do.

It has a heat exchanger (most turbo Subarus do to my knowledge) above the oil filter that uses the coolant to help cool the oil. Even with this, summer oil temps will stay between 97-102 C.
