The Zymol they sell at Walmart is supposedly made by Turtle Wax, which is different from the real Zymol.

The modern waxes which don't stain trim either lack abrasive with "tint power" or else are made entirely of transparent waxes. AFAIK NuFinish is actually closer to an acrylic floor polish in formulation, so its not startling that it stains trim as much as it does. I certainly wouldn't expect an expired bottle of it to work well, since the chemistry is based on crosslinking.

Either way, TW Ice paste is easy to apply, easy to buff out, glossy, and lasts for quite a while. Best of all, no abrasive and it even conditions rubber trim due to its heavy silicone waxes.

Just apply it, and then spray it with TW Ice QD spray before you buff it. Very easy and you will outshine everyone.

It's very much "real" Zymol. The Zymol company wanted to set up a retail line, so they partnered with Turtle Wax. The Zymol blue wax is not at all similar to any of the TW liquid waxes (e.g Liquid carnauba or Super Hard Shell)

Theres nothing wrong with nufinish. Either you applied it wrong, did it in direct sunlight, or you didn't shake the bottle enough as others suggested. I don't use nufinish now, but I have in the past. As far as staining trims, have you ever even waxed a car before? 9/10 products on the shelf will stain trims if you are carelessly applying the product. How long did you let the product sit on the panel for before removing? I'm no master detailer, but if you went any longer than 5 minutes, thats your problem.

Somewhere between a year and two years old. Yes, I did shake the bottle for 10 seconds or so before using it.

Also, I forgot to mention that the dusting you get is unbelievable. I had to take the van outside because I did not want to coat the garage with a layer of dust.

I have waxed a number of cars before and I understand that a number of OTC products will stain trim, but NuFinish seemed to be exceptionally bad in this area.

The product sat for about 15 minutes prior to removal, as directed by the instructions. I have allowed Duragloss to sit for more than that and it still came off easily.

Sorry you had all that trouble with the NuFinish. I've used it for many years with no problems at all. I'll use a bottle until it's gone, which has been 2 years and still no problems. I only apply as thin of a coat as is necessary for coverage and, if doing the whole vehicle, I will apply it all over and then go back to where I started and remove it. If I'm doing a small section and in a hurry, or using it to remove a "scuff", I'll remove it as soon as I'm done applying it. It will stain trim but being careful keeps this to a minimum. I've never noticed THAT much dust, but then again, I only apply "thin" coats. I've always been a fan of Nufinish for it's low cost, excellent durability and ease of use/removal!

If you're gonna spend the money, and put in the time and effort to wax your vehicle, why bother using a suck-a$$ product like Nufinish? The stuff is garbage and there are FAR better products available from almost any company that makes automotive waxes.

Wow, I've used it in certain applications for years. It depends on what you're looking for. I think the reason the OP had issues was the product was too old or not shaken enough, it could have been applied to thick or sat too long to dry also. If not done right it's tough to get off, I like to apply it as thin as possible. But for a one step product it's hard to beat its polish and durability.

The only thing I don't like about it, it's harse and sometimes this is not needed. Works very well for things like rims.

I agree with 97 GTP. It should have been shaken several hundred times not just for 10 seconds. If it dusted that badly then far far too much product was used. There is also the possibility that the whole bottle had gone south as several had mentioned. I'm no great fan of it but it's not a bad product when applied correctly.

Not sure where you're getting 15 minutes from, the only mention of 15 minutes is for how long to rinse out your eyes for if the product gets in them. The product itself, and web site simply says to let it dry to a haze. This will vary depending on weather conditions, but from my experience 30 seconds to 3minutes, never more than 5. Personally, I always shake the bottle up a bit before i squeeze any out, even if the product had only been sitting for 5 minutes, shake it up for a couple seconds. I apologize if my last post seemed harsh, I just don't like seeing a decent product get bashed, especially on something like the trim issue which will happen with any wax.

I find that if I let the Duragloss sealants I use sit longer, the easier it is to come off. The longer it sits, the drier the sealant becomes which allows you to dust the hazy residue off easily. If you do not let it sit for enough time, the sealant will be damp and will build up on the cloth you are using to take the hazy residue off. This makes it much more difficult to remove.

I think you had a bad bottle. I don't use NuFinish regularly, but on my DD it lasts a very long time. And the cleaning properties someone mentioned are great for not having to clay and polish first. Not the best by any means, but good for a once in a while job.

I've used it on my Jeep to remove brake/rail rust. It does wonders. But you gotta use a new bottle, shake it well and do 1 area at a time. I usually use NuFinish to clean the paint of my Jeep. I then use Black Magic liquid wax on top. Offers a good protection.

I've used NuFinish on my Jeeps for 14 years. Nothing wrong with it at all if you follow directions, and it outlasts pretty much anything else I've seen. The 96 Cherokee still looks new and the 09 Patriot is still new, so things are good.
You're just not supposed to put it on the trim, man.

You're right, I checked the bottle today and didn't see the 15 minute part. I must have been thinking about something else.

I've probably been so spoiled by Duragloss that I have picked up this nasty habit of doing the entire car, then going back and buffing off each panel. Guess I need to be more careful with NuFinish.

Also, I guess it is possible that I applied too thick of a coat since the liquid was so "watery," which may have contributed to the super tough removal and the duststorm upon removal.

Regardless, I think I may end up just using the rest of the bottle more carefully. But in the future, I will probably switch to something else.

My experience with nufinish is as follows -

I tried it and loved it. easy on and off, great shine, beaded water well. I used it probay 10 times last summer on my nearly new grand prix. toward the end of the summer, I had some small clear coat peeling issues.

maybe it was nufinsh, maybe it was gm. All I know is I use nxt 2.0 now and am happier with application, removal and end product. Will not let nufinish touch a vehicle of mine now.

Wow, used it 10 times last summer!?? I use it once a year, maybe twice depending circumstances or whenever I have to pay some attention to a particular spot, such as a door wipe mark or small surface scratch. I'd be inclined to think it was a fault in the paint that made the clear coat let go and not the NuFinish unless you rubbed thru the clear coat!??? Anyway, I've stuck with NuFinsh because of it's durability and it's ease of application and removal. I usually do the whole vehicle and then remove it but I do use a thin coat with a damp applicator.

Here lately though, I've been giving the Eagle "Nano" line of carwash and spray wax a go. It's all I've used on the '09 Avenger since new (8 months) and it's doing good so far, beads water and shines great.

NuFinish is a great product if it is used according to the directions....The important part is shake well and use sparingly!
