New Mobil syn...20k oci

I think this new oil has missed the appropriate price point. Talking in rough numbers, Mobil 1 is about $25 for 5 quarts, and Mobil 1 EP is about $30 for 5 quarts. This latest oil is about $50 for 5 quarts.

The common BITOG wisdom is Mobil 1, at $5/quart is good for about 10,000 miles. Mobil 1 EP, at $6/quart is good for about 15,000 miles. This is a relatively small cost increase for 5,000 extra miles. But, to add 5,000 more miles, it costs you $10/quart, or an extra $4/quart. I don't think it will sell unless their Annual Protection oil is within $5 of the price of Mobil 1 EP, both for 5 quart bottles.

Plus, the M1 AP bottle says to follow your maintenance schedule in your owner's manual to ensure your vehicle operates safely and reliably.

Most owner's manuals don't advocate 20,000 mile oil change intervals.

I'll be watching for this new oil on sale.

I remember when Royal Purple showed up on the Walmart shelves here at $40 a jug and no one bought that stuff. It sat till it went on clearance and eventually sent back I'm guessing.

2 year / 20k mile ocis are becoming standard in Europe.

It's a "halo" oil. Mobil's analysts will be working with Walmart to see how much sales of M1 and M1 EP increase once this hits the shelves.

Exactly. The high price point threshold is really about $25. More than that and those oils sell A LOT less quickly. I noticed how Pennzoil Ultra, and Castrol gold bottle sold a fair amount slower than their regular products do for less than $25.

Maybe this will be at AZ for $2/qt next year?

That's ... really expensive. Is it a walmart exclusive? If it's $50 at WalMart, it must be $75 at AZ / Advance!

It's obviously not going to sell in my area as no Wal Marts around me have it stocked. Just M1 and M1 EP

$50~ for oil=NUTS

Maybe its actually synthetic this time - which would be about 9-13e a litre.

Want a better oil, buy a MB 229.5x approval oil.

Want a long life oil? Buy a BMW LL01 oil ( or whatever is current year gasoline/spark fired spec.)

You mean like European M1 0W-40 which is Group III Visom based instead of majority PAO?

I just did ... M1 Formula M was $46 for a six pack ... so more than 0W40 ... but wanted 5w40 with a NOACK lower than T6

At that price Amsoil is less expensive and they still have the 25,000 mile OCI or is it 35,000 for the Signature Series. I just cannot see this leaving the shelves in any quantity when the EP would suit most driver's extended OCIs and as noted, most cars under warranty will never see an OCI of 15,000 never mind 20,000
