New Jersey bans 19 motor oils

The oils are found mostly in lower income urban areas where the oil marketers can take advantage of people who buy based on price by selling their junk at slightly lower prices. Plus these lower income folks likely drive older cars, are less likely to blame the oil for engine problems, and are less likely to take legal action. They need PQIA's help by shining a light on the bad oils and urging states to take legal action to get them off the shelves.

... looks worse than what came out of my car during my last oil change. Ugh.

thanks for posting that pic, i didn't think it could be that bad!

looks like it's repackaged used oil.

i recant my statement earlier!!!!

I've never seen any of those off-brand oils up here, which is odd
considering this is a poor and backwards state.

Not necessarily. I've seen the US Economy in a couple of stations here in Appleton, and there are very few "poor" parts in the city. Appleton is somewhat affluent, compared to many other cities in WI.

One of those stations also carry Everclear, Bulls Eye, and another one of the products on the PQIA list that I cannot remember. The station is a bit out of the way because it's a really old location, but it's the only station in the city that has all grades of ethanol free gas so I go there for OPE fuel. I just happened to go inside once out of curiosity to see what they had on the shelves.

That is some Family Dollar oil.

I think I will go to Family Dollar RIGHT NOW to see what is on their shelf.

how do we in the other 49 states get these bad oils banned?

I can see it being impossible to get these banned in the red states, where any regulation of anything is considered an attack on business by the under-educated majority
