Looked at that. Whats up BP? Can't even post the new PDS for your new oil? no Dexos-1 on the old pds. No GF-5 on that PDS.

I guess this is the new SN GF5 version, since everything I've seen still wears the SM label. Their advertising stinks but I think they have a winner with Edge.

Yeah, their PDS at the bottom that lists them all is not updated. It's from Dec. 2009. To see the new specs you have to click on the material safety data sheet for each individual grade. Just at a glance the 5w30 and 10w30's kv40 and 100 cSt values are different than their old formulas...

5w30 kv40: 61.48, kv100: 10.71, FP: 220c, 428f
10w30 kv40: 71.3, kv100: 11.43, FP: 200c, 392f

...for reference, their other PDS at the bottom is an old PDS dated December of 2009. It lists these at..

5w30 kv40: 54.17, kv100: 9.8
10w30 kv40: 60.46, kv100: 9.83

So they thickened up a bit. The old 10w30 was thicker at both temps than the new 5w30! lol. Also, I'm thinking the new 5w30 is using more of a better basestock than the new 10w30 judging by the flashpoint difference. Would this be correct thinking, or no? Just throwing it out as more of a question, not a statement. But the 5w has a better FP for sure.

Also from the new MSDS:

Base oils:
Highly refined 85-90%, CAS # Varies
Trade secret 3032: 1-5%, CAS # Proprietary

...we seem to be missing 5-10% of something. :P

I'm having trouble loading the MSDS. Is the 0W20 & 5W20 any different? Thanks!

Didn't know they would put specs on their MSDSs! Thank you

New stuff...

0w20 kv40: 49.35, kv100: 8.25, FP: 220c, 428f
5w20 kv40: 49.86, kv100: 9.09, FP: 220c, 428f

...old formulas...

0w20 kv40: 38.62, kv100: 8.85
5w20 kv40: 42.7, kv100: 8.34

...on the new stuff, both the 0w and 5w have the same flash point and the kv40 is extremely close to the same. Only difference really is the 5w is thicker at operating temp. Weird! Instead of 0w20 they should call it 5w15. That'd get the point more across of what it is by comparison. lol

And the old formula 5w is way thinner than the new 0w at kv40, making it thinner at startup temps I guess (?).

So the overall thing is, they've thicken'd all their oils up quite a bit. The 10w30 looks like German Castrol to me, haha.

Do you guys actually have any proof? Have you seen the insides of an engine run 40,000 miles plus with Edge?? There are reasons oil companies change oil formulations. And these reasons can be diametrically opposed to the best thoughts and wishes of BITOGians.

You want proof? How about I like and to me. That should be proof enough. And what is a BITOGians. I thought we were BITOGers.

I know what it is, Edge is Kendall with titanium power and Pennzoil with cleaning power and all of this is in a Edge bottle displayed where the old Mobil 5000 was and if you can figure this out, I am sure you will find it not less money. Either way have a nice day

LOL ugh, my head already hurts in the oil aisle. [/quote]

Pablo, while i have no proof, i can say this, running edge 5w20 my car is most quiet and best mpgs ive ever seen, compared to any off shelf oil ive ever used including m1 0w20 and rp

True. I was simply stating my opinion. I like the 40C number better from the old formula of Edge. The change could be an improvement, or necessary to meet SN GF5. My comments are based on how my vehicles start, run and sound. Edge was clearly the best in two vehicles, both saw Amsoil, PP, and Mobil 1. No I haven't seen the insides of any engine using recent formulations of Amsoil, Pennzoil, Mobil 1 or Egde after 40,000 miles. I don't think many of us have. I'm pretty sure they'd all look very similar using any of the above oils. Maybe at 300,000 miles maybe there would be a difference, and which oil produced the best results might be very interesting. I have used both Amsoil and Castrol Edge, at this time I like Castrol Edge better, the car just seems to be running smoother.

I am glad you bring up the point of oil companies changing oil formulations, at onetime Amsoil seemed to be the leader of the pack, now it seems to be a follower. JMO

AMEN to that!! I do believe that is exactly why the amsoil guy has jumped on this thread, but once we re-rebuttaled him, he backed off, I do believe you hit the nail on the head pontiac fan!

Not "re-rebuttaled" in the least. Simply looking for proof of the alleged cleaning abilities of Edge, when frankly I have seen the opposite.

All lubricants are a balance, often with trade offs and selecting a lubricant because of one simplistic parameter such as sound, may not always be the right choice. I'm not here saying Amsoil is the best lube ever made, but when I read the fan boy subjective statements in this and other threads - it sounds exactly what these same people make fun of Amsoil users about.

"simply looking for proof of the alledged cleaning abilites of edge, when frankly ive seen the opposite." care to share? and i never spoke of edge having miracle cleaning abilities, infact i made it obvious that mine was an opinion, as well as dermapaint made clear his was an opinion. you said youd like to see pics of engines @ 40k running edge, well if the engine is still running strong as most are @ 40k regardless of oil, why would we tear down? Im confident that edge is stepping on amsoils heels and they know it.
