New 2023 Corolla and 0W-8 oil

The last time when I was at toyota dealership 0W-8 a quart at 20$ each almost 100$ for 5 single quart no buy but since Walmart carry Mobil 1 for less 30$ for 5 quart jug. I did bought 3 OE oil filter from them at 6$ each. December my 24 corolla due for free oil change probably not going to waste my 3 hours which I can do it on my garage less 20 minutes and car not going anywhere plus it's time to install my winter tires.

Anymore the "oil" is just the carrier of anti-wear/anti-friction additives and also to conduct away the heat. Strictly runs in boundary film
Lots of parts run in hydrodynamic and mixed lubrication (a mix of hydrodynamic & boundry). Some run mainly in boundry lubrication, like cam lobes. Oil shearing is a source of heat, but oil contacting hotter parts like pistons (ie, use of piston squirters) can also be used to conduct and carry heat away from hotter parts.

Journal bearings better not run in boundry lubrication unless you want them destroyed and maybe a rod blown through tbe block after the bearing spins and seizes, lol. Journal bearings in an ICE have always ran in hydrodynamic lubrication ever since they were invented, and always will - that's how journal bearings are designed to operate.

The realms of lubrication hasn't changed in an ICE. Materials development has changed, and can be an important factor in lubrication.
