2025 Toyota 2.5L Engine Oil Viscosity Update.

I thought we were on the same page as to these engines NOT having electronic oil pumps? My wife has the A25A-FXS, not the FKS as stated in the video.

Does her motor have the supposedly electronic fuel pump?

No worries. Failure is unlikely.
Electronically controlled components. So it is probably sensors that fail, QC ?

The Crown reverted to a purely mechanical thermostat, with failure less likely

I have been going crazy trying to make a good choice of a 0w-16 oil for my new Toyota without using that world's greatest pyramid scheme $15.00 a quart oil. I called my local Toyota Dealer today 6/6/2025 where I purchased my SUV and got Jason, the service manager. I asked him directly if I could switch to a 0w-20 engine oil without Toyota corporate rejecting my warranty. He looked it up and said according to Toyota corporate I can permanently use 0w-20 or 5w-20 engine oil in my 2025 Rav4 SUV with no risk of causing warranty issues. I know it is not that big a difference really, but it makes me feel better, plus it opens up more choices. I thought maybe some people would like to know this.
I know this is against the rules here, but at least for a while, I decided to go with Liqui Moly Molygen 5w-20 oil. https://www.liqui-moly.com/en/us/molygen-new-generation-sae-5w-20-p003693.html#22152

You can order online and they will deliver free on a $35 order.
I don't know if you are interested @JohnnyJohnson , but I started this thread. I actually didn't go with the Liqui Moly Molygen, I ended up using Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 and a 300mL can of product 2009 Liqui Moly MoS2 mixed in. The Mobil had a HTHS >3.5 and the Mos2 has really helped me in the past, doesn't cost much and won't hurt anything. Take Care

The OM for our 2022 Rav4 Hybrid XLA with the A25A-FXS engine states that 0W-16 is the recommended viscosity. If not available, 0W-20 can be used but MUST go back to 0W-16 at the next oil change. This is for Hawaii. I use Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-16 since it's available and cheap at WM. Trying M1 Hybrid 0W-20 right now but going back to 0W-16.

That statement is for CAFE reasons. Not functionality or reliability reasons. Either 16 or 20 is perfectly acceptable.

Watch for new insights coming on this, Saturday 1/3 from Lake Speed Jr
The latest video had an interesting difference in sheer with xW-16 vs xW-20.

This image kind of makes the viewer thing that a typical xw16 oil has inferior VM or starts lower on the grade viscosity limita. Unfortunately data science requires more explanation. I wonder how this table would look for those 0w16 and 0w20 if hybrids and heavy diluters excluded, and shows viscosity loss rather than a binary "in / out of the grade"

I would love to see a debate between OVERKILL and Lake Speed Jr. That would be worth paying for.

I don`t actually know what is OVERKILL`s profession, but juding by the depth of his knowledge, I presume he has a technical line work.

Usually a debate between a scientist/academic/engineer and a sales/marketing/politican person does not create a good set up, as one relies more on confidence/window dressing whereas the other slows himself trying to be factual and mathematical

Recent UOA on Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 0w-20. The only oils that held up their flashpoints to fuel diltuion were Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30/0w-20 and the other was Pennzoil Platinum 0w-16.
