2025 Toyota 2.5L Engine Oil Viscosity Update.

I would love to see a debate between OVERKILL and Lake Speed Jr. That would be worth paying for.
I expect we'd be in agreement on most things. Lake is a smart guy, I think a lot of stuff gets fudge factored for the sake of simplicity in youtube content, which is then misinterpreted by the audience and then we get endless conversations over it on the forum. For example, the recent 5W-30 vs 5W-20 discussion, according to what Glenda stated, he ultimately ended up referring to it as "noise", which I'm 100% in agreement on, when we are talking about attempting to make comparative analysis between appropriately spec'd products in a grade suitable for the application.

The only thing I think Lake and I would have substantial disagreement on is his use of adding up wear metals.

Recent UOA on Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 0w-20. The only oils that held up their flashpoints to fuel dilution were Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30/0w-20 and the other was Pennzoil Platinum 0w-16.

Low flashpoint and fell out of grade at 100C (heck it is nearly out of -16 range) but they’re saying to keep pushing it. Oookay there buddy.

Those EPA required “dire warnings” are apparently doing their job. As they were intended to do.
What was announced in April 2022 was a step too far. We didn’t have the ability to hit those targets with ICE - nor did we have affordable work trucks (in various classes) with EV drive-lines.

If you look online, various Toyota dealers have specials on oils. My sister got 5 dollar a quart tgmo 0w16 and shipping was free as she stashed up enough for 10 or so oil changes lol. I am sure 0w20 tgmo will have similar specials on pricing.

I ALWAYS put 0w-20 in my Toyota 2.5 Dynamic Force Engine. And I put 0w30 in my Lexus 3.5 engine. And 0w30 in my BMW B48 engine. Those two have 0w20 listed as the primary oil. Certainly doesn't hurt anything...
This makes no sense.
