I had about a gallon of Neo 0w5 oil in older bottle-think it was like SG rated. I was curious about it's ability to work in my 2004 Honda Accord-had excellent results with their 5w30...but I still have a year of payments on the Accord and wife's car is runnning well with Amsoil 0w30 nearly no oil consumption in nearly 11,000 miles. So decided to use our third car 1996 tercel with nearly 160,000 miles on it. The car itself was in some trouble consuming nearly a quart of oil every 1000 miles nearly 1.5-2years ago. I performed two treatments with auto rx with older instructions, and one complete treatment with newer instruction and introduced pennzoil platinum as the first synthetic oil used in the car during these treatments and the rinse cycle. I just ran redline 5w30 for 7 months and 6000 miles and used about a quart of makeup oil. I put the Neo 0w5 in the car last week and have put about 500 miles on it. So far the gas mileage improved slightly, but need some more time to measure that and car is accelerating as well as a 92 horsepower car can. I wondered if there is a way to check the oil pressure or if there are tangible signs I can use to determine whether the engine is doing ok besides feeling it seize up on 695. I quit gambling about one year 3 months two days and 6 hours ago, and wonder if am transferring gambling habit to this car.

Sounds like you are taking a bit of a gamble

, I guess you'll be Ok in the short term but watch for the oil pressure light to come on. Probably that engine will go for quite a while with any type of vaguely oily substance in it.
You could spring for an oil analysis after a few thousand miles and see how its doing.
If its ok, go to grape seed oil next

I would not use synthetic in this motor myself. 160,000 just get a good high mile oil and call it a day. Good decision on the AutoRX! The NEO won't make your motor blow. Its probably already worn out as it stands. I just think a 5w-30 or 10w-30 will give you better protection. Neo or Redline is way overkill for your car. No offense. Your money would be better spent on a regular oil in a heavier weight.

Sounds interesting. Go 3,000 miles then get a UOA form Terry Dyson at Dyson Analysis. Tell Terry to send me the bill if you cannot afford it. This is a good experiment.

Now there are words of a man dedicated to "thin is better". I like this myself.

That's awesome!

Mr AEHASS you are a man of conviction and vast knowledge.

Keep up the good work and you apparently deserve your toys. Best regards.

I had compression check done on the Toyota Tercel yesterday.
Cyl #1 195 psi
Cyl #2 205 psi
Cyl #3 195 psi
Cyl #4 200 psi

The mechanic said they were all within specifications and higher one's were factory specifications. I really wish I did compression checks prior to initial Auto RX run...While I can objectively note the oil consumption or leaking went from 1 quart every 1000-1500 miles to one quart every 6000 miles; I can only subjectively state the car feels more responsive and peppier...as much as the 92-93 horsepower engine can feel responsive. Thank you Mr.aehaas for the generous offer. My birthday is coming up in January and wife asked me what i would like. I can ask her for a Terry Dyson Analysis...Thank you again though

Nice compression numbers for a 12-year old engine. In my experience, those engines burned a lot of oil as they got older, so seeing that kind of reduction means you're doing something right!

It will be really, really interesting to see UOA results for this oil - it was interesting to see the 5W-30 in your Accord. Neo makes diester-based oils that probably are the closest thing we have to the synthetics that were availiable in the 1970's....

I can't wait to see that UOA on this oil.

I just sent my first sample for a UOA today.. I was giddy at the postoffice :)
