Hey everyone!
I don’t usually post but have been an avid lurker here for years. Anyway…
I just purchased a Japanese 1997 Toyota Aristo (Lexus GS300 in the US) equipped with a 2JZ-GTE engine. I’m concerned about modern oils and their ability to adequately protect vs something like Mobil 1 Classic. The engines valve train for example uses buckets and sims which is certainly older tech vs roller rockers to my understanding.
The car is currently stock, has 100k miles, and has used little to no oil. Most of the seals are new and overall the engine is healthy aside from some junk under the valve covers.
I’m currently running Amsoil SS 5w30 and a FRAM Titanium 3614 which has started to remove some of the varnish from what I can see when removing the oil cap.
Given that these cars are to the age of being 30 is modern oil the right choice?
Thanks for any input!
