This is the first time I put Amsoil into the car, Ford Focus 2001 SE DOHC, with 115k miles. Engine sounds ok, previous UOA was ok, but for a short interval with quaker 5w20..

Do you think I can wait for a whole year before changing the oil?

I've got the Napa Gold filter, and expect to drive about 5-6k miles on the car. Currently have 4k on the car since last oil change in February.

I'll do an UOA when I change the oil.. I'm up in Canada, so it gets a bit cold in the winter..

Any suggestions why I shouldn't wait for a full year?

IMHO the whole point of Amsoil ASM (and SSO) is to get a long drain interval. It is loaded with plenty of TBN and detergents/dispersants/additices and design and sold just for this type of application. It's what it is for.

I would do a UOA to see how it performs at the end of the 1 year, and possibly do one mid-stream for the first year I was doing this to see that it is holding up.

So you are saying you will only put 5-6,000 miles on in a year?

If so, that will be a breeze and not that expensive.
