Wrong, the greenhouse is a near direct rip, the profile is a near direct rip, even front end proportioning (head light placement and shape and grill placement/sizing) is a near direct rip. The only major styling differences in those two cars is minor detailing. If you don't think Hyundai had pictures of the MB CLS in front of them when they came up with the '11 Sonata, you may need to have your eyes checked. The shape has nothing to do with wind-tunnel testing whatsoever, it has to do with Hyundai ripping MB's "coupe like sedan" styling elements. Look at the front and rear deck lengths, the two are [censored] near identical.

You are in denial because the Koreans are becoming extremely successful in warp speed. Your facts are nothing but elementary name-calling, blunt and vague comments.

Even the bolts and nuts were zinc plated! Nothing ever rusted in the old 510's. They were nearly bulletproof.

But the Japs and the Koreans have NEVER been much for originality.

Not saying it is right. But it's been explained that a Mexico assembled Ford still is better for the US economy than an USA assembled foreign owned brand. And if an American company is going to make something anywhere besides the US it should be in N. America.

It's the principle that this is the US market. Why do people want to so freely give up their market and money to foreign nations? We should be keeping our own market and taking over their markets if anything since we were the leader and innovator to start with. I see no good reasons and a lot of bad reasons to buy Hyundai or Kia over a Chevy or Ford even if the Ford is asembled in Mexico.

I will never ever deny that Detroit needed the butt-kicking that the Japanese gave them late in the 20th century, and we see the result now, especially at Ford.

But anyone who thinks that Japanese vehicles hit these shores as the epitome of perfection from Day 1 either wasn't around at the time, or needs to lay off of the meds because they're affecting their memory....

I just find it disturbing how everyone use the words "Influence, similarity" when talking about Japanese cars taking design ideas from the Americans and Europeans and when talking about Korean cars, they use words like "Knock-off and copy". -There's a huge fan sites on Hyundai vehicles,
-They offer much more for the price
-They are getting good reviews from magazines that tests many more expensive cars.

It's really quite simple. First, the Japanese copied the American car styling (and some German car styling... remember the RX-7/944 debacle), then the Koreans started copying the Germans and the Japanese.

Rising auto corporations have copied the designs of established marques for a long time, and it's likely to continue. Look at the spam coming out of China for cars now, probably 1/3 to 1/2 of them are complete copies of vehicles from other makes.

The Hyundai Sonata and Genesis are very clearly Mercedes rip-offs. Lexus 15 years ago was a blatant German rip-off.

Popinski, you seem to take these comments very personally. The Japanese ripped off other brands, now the Koreans are ripping off other brands. Call it what you want, it is what it is.
