Mobil Clean 5000 users?

I've been using Mobil Clean 5000 lately, and I really seem to like the performance, not that it is any better or worse than another oil out there. I’m not comparing. But wondered if anyone else out there is using it and liking it? I won't keep it in my car longer than 3-4 months or 3k anyway. I will note this observation I've had compared to other oils. I checked the level on the stick after running it for 500 miles and strangely, it appears to have a much more yellow tint to it when I wipe it on a white paper towel, whereas the other brands of dino seem to brown or darken more. Anyone else notice this about the Mobil Clean 5000?
 
My Mom uses it in her 2004 S10 Blazer. My Dad was using it in his 2003 S10 pickup but joined me and went to Mobil 1 EP. We will probably do the same to Mom's vehicle so we can all do 10K OCIs. I know the oil is guaranteed to 15K but why take the risk?

I agree, but I also feel that Mobil Clean 5000 must be better than most other dino's in that they do guarantee it. what other brand has the stones to at least do that? NONE. Not that I would go 5000 miles on their dino, but if it has a 5000 mile guarantee, it sure has he11 must awsome for a 3000k interval.
 
Pennzoil 4/4k warranty

Not quite 5k miles, but 4/5 of the way there.


Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum get quite dark in my engines within 2-3k miles. Does that mean that Mobil clean 5000 would be better b/c its a lighter colored oil? I don't think that logic is very well thought out. Besides lighter is harder to read on the dipstick.
 
Sounds like "I like light oil color that stays that way " because it doesn't clean. If you tried Delo or an Hdeo it would darken pretty fast too. That's is why I use them, Havoline and Chevron.
 
I NEVER said I like them because they stay ligher and don't clean as well. Also, just because they stay more clear longer does not mean they are not cleaning as well as the ones that turn dark really quick.

Yes, it is similar, but not the same.
I'll say it again, just because an oil stays cleaner looking longer, does not mean it is not cleaning as well as the ones that turn dark really fast.
 
It's still amazing that since I began this post, not one Mobil Clean 5000 user besides me has piped in yet. Hello? Are you out there?
 
I'd buy whichever is cheaper of the M5000 or Superflo until there is some UOA evidence M5000 is in fact better than Superflo dino. IMO M5000 is just the product Exxon Mobil is trying to build a premium dino brand through advertizing dollars.

I disagree - if they stay clear longer rather than get dirty - they aren't cleaning as well.
Want to see the difference - put some Redline in for the first-time.
 
Heck, I know people talk about smelling oils too, but if you smell the M5000, that stuff smells wicked. It is the only conventional oil that really has a chemical sort of smell to it. That only leads me to think it must a lot more robust than any of the others.
 
I ran the mobil5000 in my 05 ram and it did well,but the last oil change I am useing tropartic syn blend 5w30 and it is working really well in this engine plus a lot better price.

Superflo smells nasty, not like a "normal oil" smell, whereas Havoline (to me) had more of the "traditional" oil smell.
 
I actually put Exxon Flo and M5000 in top tier dino but don't use them as they aren't price competive with others in the same group on the West Coast. I also avoid them in my GM V6s as I want the UOA easier to read on coolant leaks.
 
I realize that the Sodium in the M5000 gas been discussed a lot, but it doesnt bother me so much now that I really think about it because if I have a coolant leak, I will notice it within 1 or 2 oil changing oci's because I keep my coolant levels at an exact mark within the overflow resevoir.
 
I don't use it any longer as harder to find. So after reading this site I switched to and will stay with Havoline 5w30. I used to use Valvoline, thus Vuser, but can't seem to change it to Huser or similar.

I don't find it hard to find at all. Walmart is loaded with it, and the auot parts stores are always stocked up.
 
I don't think your observation is limited just to Mobil 5000. I've noticed a delay in darkening in use with TropArtic (SM), too. I attribute the phenomenon to the generally increased use of Group II/Group II+ and Group III base oil stocks. These severely hydrotreated base oils are simply more resistant to oxidation breakdown and stress the detergent additives less than earlier formulations. By the time my normal 3,000 mile change interval rolled around on my first use of the TropArtic, I was finally able to reliably see the oil level on the dipstick under garage lighting. With the previous Chevron Supreme (SL) oil I had been using, that happened at more like 1,000 miles of use. In short, conventionals are better than ever.
 
It's from these new-fangled API SM additive packages. For the basestocks to oxidize enough to turn brown/red would take abuse beyond what occurs in engines during proper length oil change intervals.
 
You have to remember that Mobil Clean 5000 and the Mobil clean that preceded it are very light colored to began with. That is one of the reasons that I have always prefered to use Mobil or Valvoline, you can somewhat see what is happening to it.
