Mobil 1 FS 0w40 has bmw longlife 01 again

Very debatable, especially since a GDI engine needs an oil with a beefed up detergent package (Ca + Mg) to cope with the improperly burned fuel, combustion byproducts, and soot. I can see how these energy conserving ILSAC oils are recommended to prevent LSPI, however, the real reason why they are pushed is simply because they are cheap to produce. I'd argue that the most expensive to produce are Mobil's offerings. For example, if the detergent package is lowered, then the ZDDP/AW additives can be reduced, including Molybdenum. If GTL is used, there is no need for PPDs, or seal conditioner. ILSAC oils are all about the easiest, simplest, and least expensive way to mass produce motor oil. However, these oils aren't really appropriate for GDI and T-GDI engines.

this guy here, at of this video 15.30 and on, an expert as claims to be, he finds these oils INTERESTING :) , on parer .. lets wait the results from his boxster to tell us how they went with it in.
whats interesting is that since i sign up and have been learning things here ,i always heard the words ,API ,ILSAC as the absolute rule of choosing an oil or ACEA in my case. i guess these organisations are doubtable sometimes.

You might be waiting a while, who knows when they’ve finished switching and exhausted the old supply including bottles. PPE 5-40 is solid.
Can confirm PPE 5w40 is always a good bet, even QS Euro 5w40, especially when on sale at Cambodian Tire :)

Our Walmart had both Mobil 0W-40 & 5W-40 in stock but the 0W-40 was still the old formulation, the 5W-40 was SP & LL01 approved.

Wanted to ask, has anyone seen the SP rated version at Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart or Parts Source in the Toronto area?

I’ll take a gander at CT he ones in my area still have the SN version.

Thanks for the post.

M1 0W-40 was just on sale last week at Crappy Tire for $35ish bucks. Probably moved out some old stock. I think CT moves way more oil in Canada than Walmart. It will probably be on sale again in the next month at CT after the cycle of weekly Castrol--->Pennzoil--->Mobil 1.

Found the oil. It was on sale at Walmart here in the GTA. The big jugs are SP rated however, the smaller bottles that were on the shelf were not. . .Turned out to be a $3 difference but, still, money is money.

It was this or Pennzoil 5w40 Euro, which in itself is a good oil, however I will stick to the M1 flavor for now as this is a break in oil change.

I'm just gona run this

The Motor Oil Geek: From all the oil samples we see and the wear tests we’ve been part of, the latest low SAPs formulas provide better protection than the older high SAPs technology. The change in balance between the the detergents and anti-wear additives is actually better with the low SAPs technology that has come about because of the LSPI issues.
The Motor Oil Geek: low speed preignition is just worse on small cylinder sizes, I still happens on big engines

here is the video:

as stated here many times from eddyw and others M1 fs 0-40 is not ideal for DI engines because of strong calcium.

my question is when he says smaller engines and LSPI what does he mean? bcs. in US a small size engine could be over 2000cc since you guys run usually bigger engines in your cars. so is it below 2000cc a small engine according to euro sizes or over 2000cc according to us sizes?
