In case anyone wants to know, I spoke to an ExxonMobil rep., and he told me that the "Extended Performance Oil Filters" will be available in May or June. They will replace the current Mobil 1 filters.

He also told me that the "Extended Performance" filters will be made by Champion.

I was wondering what other filters Champion makes, and are Champion-made filters any good?

When I called XOM's 800 number yesterday, they told me they should be manufactured by June, and should show up in stores after June... and more importantly to me, that the current M1 oil filter for Subaru 2.5l engine is M1-112... although I can't find it anywhere

The rep. told me that they would start manufacturing in May and the availability date (in stores) would be flexible, probably in June. Things were delayed for a while, he said.

I asked the rep. if the "Extended Performance" filters would be available for most vehicles and he said that we would have to "wait and see", but if your car takes a current Mobil 1 filter, you should be O.K.

Mobil 1 filters used to be available at K-Mart (not now), but the rep. told me that Auto Zone carries them now, and the EP ones this summer.

If you can't find a filter now, I would try e-mailing XOM; they do answer quickly.

Champion made filters are very good! The following filters are made by them:

Mobil 1
K&N
STP
Supertech
Ultraguard Gold
Bosch Premium

i thought bosch filters werent too good since they moved there production to mexico

I've been reading Baldwin filters are Mexican-made now. There's a portion of AC Delco filters coming from Mexico too.

Where next.... China?

Try AutoZone. That's the only place I've found Mobil 1 oil filters in my area.

While you're at AutoZone, compare the Bosch filter to the STP filter for your application. When I changed the oil in the wife's Corolla last weekend, the only thing that appeared to be different after a 30-second visual inspection was the box and the color of the case. Oh, and a rather dramatic price difference in favor of the STP.
