New Purolator Gold Filters

Hmm. Well that's a bummer. I assume they got bought out?

I never thought I'd see the University of Kentucky be good at football. I never thought I'd see Katy Perry launched into orbit in a spacecraft. And I never thought I'd see the day when people would recommend Fram filters over other brands. I guess I'm getting old and a lot is changing around me.
Mann and Hummel(Germany) bought Purolator and Wix. I had used and recommended Wix for over 20 years. Consolidation of manufacturing has taken its toll on QC. Those NC boys had pride in craftsmanship for many years, it really is to bad imo.

Not really...oil filters these days change daily sometimes. Forget all you have ever known about oil filters. It's a real fiasco we are all living....

Purolator has NC on the box. When I called Purolator about the efficiency awhile ago, I talked to a man who had been with Wix. I don’t know if Puro was in NC before, never paid that much attention.

So, the WIX plant is in Gaston County (NC.) They were bought by M&H, which also bought Purolator, so, entirely possible they're making some of the Purolators in NC now.

I have been there several times, but has been 6 or 7 years now.

It says Fayetteville, NC on my Purolator boxes, marked 2022. Like the headquarters.

To add info, Bosch and M+H co-owned Purolator until 2013 when M+H bought out Bosch's ownership stake. Just so happens that Purolators started tearing media not too long after M+H took full control of Purolator. Bosch carried on by themselves after they sold their stake in Purolator, and most likely why the Bosch filters didn't show the same issues as Purolators after 2013. Also means that M+H had their hands in the Motorcraft filters since they were also made by Purolator.

Yes, I believe WIX had a plant there as well.
The Fayetteville plant is the OG Purolator plant. Now though, some Wix label spin on are made there too.

After Bosch sold its stake in Purolator, US made Bosch filters like the Bosch Premium continued to be made by Purolator. That until the BP production move to Mexico ~few years ago. And they haven't been the same since.

If that's the case, then it may be that Bosch speced it's own media after selling their stake of Purolator to M+H, or kept the old media they had always been using when they had a stake in Purolator. Or Bosch made sure Purolator produced filters without big wide pleat spacing which is also a root cause of tearing media if it's weak media. I don't recall the Bosch filters having media tearing problems like the Purolators did after M+H bough out Bosch's share of Purolator.

You can’t stay with your favore filter brand forever, soon or later it will turn to worse filter.

A filter brand like the Carquest Premium, MicroGard Select or the new Mobil 1 probably makes a filter for every one of them
I wonder in few years from now. These name would still pop up as recommendation.

I miss the ultra era, that was the reason I came back to Fram.

I lost faith in Purolator filters and won't buy another. They can give them funny new names but that doesn't change my mind.

What about latest Mobil1 oil filters? I remember they used to be good, and then not, are they any better than say Fram Ultra ?
