Mobil 1 cartridge filters

Guy in the video is livid ... just think what he would have said if he found out Fram changed the Ultra. 😄

I used to buy m1c filters online in Walmart, they used to come with metal caps, nicely build. After this, I am going to Fram Ultra cartrige.
OK. Thats fine with us. That's a quality filter for sure. However the oil you use is far more important than the filter you use.

I thought I had posted this in another thread, but I cannot find it right now. "All of the O"Reilly stores by me are phasing out the Mobil 1 brand filters. It appears they are switching to Wix as their premium brand in-store filter. I am not sure if that has to do with the Champ Brands / Mann Hummel switch or not, but suffice it to say it is telling that there may be changes to many previous branded filters in the market. Just an FYI for all.

Advanced Auto Parts sells m1c-251a for $21. Imagine paying $21 to get this thing inside the box…. That guy would not make it 😂

It looks just like my oil filter except that mine is in a can and not a cartridge. You don’t need a center tube and metal end caps.

Yep, if maybe in the past it was splitting hairs to go m1 vs fram ultra, now it becomes and easier choice to go with ultra. Even redesigned fram is more appealing than this new m1. Both in same price range.

Machinery Lubrication doesn't agree ... they say both are important.

Problem solved.
But I'm with others here. You simply cannot judge a filter's efficiency and durability based off someone's opinion on YouTube or the lack of metalin its construction. I trust Mobil 1 over that guy.

I put that video link for fun, not for his opinion. Not putting metal caps and not using metal core cuts manufacturing costs for them, and yet they still charge us the same amount. I am sure this filter will work fine, but thats not the point, fram extra guard will work fine also for $4…

People are supposed to think we are still getting the same quality product? What was wrong with metal caps, after years of making them they determined they are no longer needed? I think this move will negatively impact their oil filter sales…

I agree, it is a "bait and switch" IMO, I would be happier if the filter efficiency was increased! Like if they used Full Synthetic media, then I might accept this, but what is reality.....um no.

...and for crying sakes, paint them silver to match the oil bottles.

This makes no sense.
Period.

Companies do this. All. The. Time.
You may not like the design change but the newer filter is still top notch, whether you like it or not.

Almost zero products are priced based on their manufacturing costs. Nearly all products are priced based on perceived value of the product and what the market will bear.

You know this.
This is not new information.
Please go troll elsewhere.

Did not take long to start with insults. Yes, companies do this all the times, make stuff cheaper, better and faster. I am so relieved to know this. Ignored.

Why would you need metal end caps on a cartridge filter?

I dont know the answer, maybe to better protect from collapsing even if unlikely? Other high end filters use them. Is the conclusion that they are no longer necessary? Even toyota TRD filter uses them.

Metal end caps are apparently a necessary liability for full synthetic media. Otherwise they are completely unnecessary and are apparently a liability from the pictures posted here.
