I did an oil change with Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W-20 and a STP XL filter about 11K ago. Used Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-20 and a OE Toyota filter at the last oil change. It’s due for an oil change and I’m doing a Valvoline Restore and Protect run. I don’t see any carbon or other flotsam on the current filter. I have the parts to convert it to a spin-on(PH4967/51394/90915-YZZN1) filter. My debate is using my last OEM cartridge, buying one of the PGL-made cartridges for it, Fram 10358-sized or convert it and use a MSL51394/S4612XL. What should I do?

If you still have an OEM cartridge, use that first :)

Use what you have now first, unless there is some kind of problem with it. Mahle cartridges are good too.
At the same time, I’m not crying over $10 but good point using my last cartridge before I convert over. Else, I would have put it in a free pile.

Yes, use your last cartridge filter first. Is there any reason to convert your cartridge housing to a spin-on one?
Also, did you used Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy between two Valvoline Restore and Protect oil changes? And if yes - why?

I had the AFE on hand. Also, the reason why I’m changing over to spin-on - I can use the same filter between three cars in the family fleet.

I also hate the Toyota cartridges. They’re on the same level as older(<1986) Mercedes cartridges for muss and fuss.
