Cartridge Filter for Gen 3/4 Prius?

Earlier this year I did my first oil change on a Prius with the cartidge filter. At the time I had used a Fram Endurance and wasn't all that impressed with the pleat spacing on that filter. The media looked like cotton, not that what it probably is. Lately I've been looking at the Mobil 1 and Carquest Premium filters. These look much more like the OEM filters which appear to be rock catchers. The media on the OEM Toyota, Carquest Premium and Mobil 1 just don't look as robust as what one would expect of a premium filter. Are there truly any advantages to a Carquest Premium or Mobil 1 in the cartridge filters for a Prius? Note that the fine print on effciency ratings usually reference a specific filter and it's not one that fits this car.

Opinions please...

Both Siennas and Camry have gotten mostly OEM cartridges on runs up to 10k (the factory spec). They've looked good when I've checked them after those runs (have recently started DIY as I now have a place to do it). Good enough for me, as 2 of the 3 are over 200k.

I tend to favor construction over efficiency, but I wouldn't lose any heartburn about switching to something else if I had a reason to do so. But Walmart has the OEM cartridges for $7 or so, and I usually pair with Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 so can kill two birds with one stone there.

Mann and Mahle, and Full are the best cartridges to use for your Prius. In particular,. the Full has M-pleats that claim to have 30% more media area :)

If you want something that can go longer, there's the Wix XP and Fram Endurance :D

Fair enough, and I will be the first to suggest that Toyota knows what the heck they are doing. We went 210k on a 2010 Prius using the OEM filters. That being said, perhaps I should rephrase the original question as follows:

Are the published efficiencies on Carquest Premium and Mobil 1 filters extensible to the cartridge fitment for a Prius V, or are they scaled back to meet a lesser Toyota spcification?

Thanks - never heard of "Full." There were no efficiency specs on the NAPA site either. It does look like a well made filter and superior to the OEM based upon the visual impression.

Full is Siam Filter, a major supplier of OEM and aftermarket filters. Almost every oil filter made in Thailand, OE or aftermarket, is made by Siam/Full.

I'd think the cartridge filters efficiency are the same as the spin-ons unless the manufacturer says otherwise.
