The bigger question is how do you find a dead horse emoji?
Yep. It’s not changing anyone’s plans on this site …Exactly what I thought. Not even worth discussing his videos anymore.
Start cutting them open.Since getting the Pilot, I noticed the MM alternates between A service (oil only) and B service (oil + filter + inspection of brakes and other stuff, technically speaking). Research on Honda's MM system indicates it may suggest an oil filter change each time, depending on driving variables during that oil change cycle.
I'm going to continue taking my chances, changing the oil filter each OCI. I'm a rebel.![]()
Whoa-Whoa-Whoa! This borders on, dare I say, common sense. When did that become a thing again???Start cutting them open.
On neglected sludgy engines they get a new filter every time.
On well kept engines I'd cut them open and find nothing to almost nothing.
On engines that I consistently found almost nothing in the oil filter, I then started doing it every other OCI.

Yes that’s the part. “Growth of Motor oil Geek lead to the growth of SD”. He’s now concentrating on the channel and SD. I’d imagine this was by design. So now we're
Checked out the video and they begin to discuss leaving Total Seal at ~2:40. Lake said SD was growing to the point he had to quit it, or Total Seal, and SD was a family business with his wife, son, and daughter, so quit TS about a year and a half ago.
When your full time job is YouTube, road from credibility to just another influencer is really fast.Interesting his full time job is now Motor Oil Geek(YouTube) and reading used oil analysis. Puts a different perspective on his vids that feed directly into Speed Diagnostix. Marketing 101.

Its all about the CLICKS.OMG, he's doubling down because of his thin skin. This filter thing is all over the internet, and I saw on other forums some citing stuff from here.
Yes, Honda has recommended that & with their low wearing engines it just makes sense.Since getting the Pilot, I noticed the MM alternates between A service (oil only) and B service (oil + filter + inspection of brakes and other stuff, technically speaking). And the Honda OEM filters are pretty low efficiency, so if the engine is dirty and loads the filter more than a cleaner engine, it will take more miles to get the dP closer to the bypass valve setting because it sheds more than a high efficiency filter. Not all debris in the oil is from just wear metals.Yes, Honda has recommended that & with their low wearing engines it just makes sense.

I’d say any wear metal that’s trapped by the filter is minor yes. And after break-in would be alarming. And the Honda OEM filters are pretty low efficiency, so if the engine is dirty and loads the filter more than a cleaner engine, it will take more miles to get the dP closer to the bypass valve setting because it sheds more than a high efficiency filter. LSJr's claim that oil filters get more efficient because the super small iron particles are trapped in the filter from attraction forces going on in the oil filter would seem like that would skew Fe wear metals UOA data, based on how long the filter was ran. If he left the filter on and ran another OCI with the same oil and same miles is the wear metals PPM going to be less because that filter left on was "getting more efficient" and filtering the wear metals better? What if he left the oil filter on for a 3rd identical run, would the wear metals go down even more because the filter on the 3rd run was a super wear metal filter at that point? I highly doubt it. Yet he has never mentioned this in any of his videos talking about various used oil analysis that I've watched. If he doesn't have real test data proving his claim, it's just a theory from him.I’d say any wear metal that’s trapped by the filter is minor yes. And after break-in would be alarming.
I don’t get how particles that wouldn’t be measured anyway can skew anything. I bet he’s never done a filter wash and fuming nitric acid digestion to see what the total iron load is. Without that or some equivalent method how would he know what’s skewed except his imagination?LSJr's claim that oil filters get more efficient because the super small iron particles are trapped in the filter from attraction forces going on in the oil filter would seem like that would skew Fe wear metals UOA data, based on how long the filter was ran. I wonder where this channel will lead to in the future. I thought it was funny when he said he didn't want to "reset" the performance on the oil filter so didn't change it after dumping the oil. Most OEM's recommend changing them each time.
I just buy something 20/25u - and rated to 20k - and then use about half of that …Just buy a filter and change it with the oil. Gets better with use? So what? It gets filled with use and needs to be changed.
