This motor I've heard is pretty darn solid if taken care of and has been around almost unchanged since 2007ish? I just got one. What experiences do you guys have?

when I worked for a mitsubishi dealer we had no issues with them, but they were rare. The later outlander phev used them.

The same engine is also used by Hyundai/Kia and Chrysler, they are not as trouble free there. So I guess it does matter who makes them.

I "vigorously" disagree with the Chrysler comment (similar to quote from a "A Few Good Men", lol)......re: the GEMA model, not the Tigershark version.

I researched the my Jeep Patriot GEMA 2,4L engine (and it's Mitsubishi Tranny) to analysis paralysis level. My MOPAR mechanic friend claimed that after Chrysler bought out the rights to the GEMA engine, they made a few changes to make the engine "even" better. Soooooo, after this split, while Hyundai/Kia and to a lesser extent Mitsubishi versions were having engine problems, the Chrysler GEMA engine has been quite bullet proof. The later Tigershark version had oil consumption issues, but that was mostly resolved by changing computer algorithms.

Anyway, my 2014 Chrysler GEMA version has been rock solid. I rest my case!

I believe the chrysler issues are limited to oil consumption. I don't know how the tigershark and gema are related.

I've had a look at a jeep patriot before, it's link to mitsubishi is much more than just engine and tranny, it's close to an outlander reskinned.

Don't know if it's the same engine but my friends had a 2011 and 2015 Outlander with that engine and had no problem.
Their 3rd was an Outlander Sport with the V6.

Consumer Note: Even guys I thought were more glam than us would say, "They make good motors", of Mitsu.

Speaking of glam....the front ends of later models are a little too chromed for my tastes, but that ain't the subject.

I'm not a huge fan of the chrome myself, but the other way around doesn't look good either: replacing chrome with black trim. There's a happy medium for me.

I didn’t know outlander sports were had with a V6.
Mitsubishi made the Japanese plane engines that bombed Pearl Harbor, my grandfather loved the galant and would frequently rent them on vacation but never could sink his teeth in purchasing one… yes their engines are good

In 1995, used cars were scarce in my neck of the woods so I bought my only new car.
I completely overlooked the Galant wagon. That bothers me to this day.
I have a neighbor with a lancer wagon not sportback I almost forgot about this vehicle but wish I had one.

Wife’s 2016 Patriot 2.4 is pretty solid; it does clatter a bit on cold start, but it burns no oil whatsoever.

Rock solid based on a relative's Outlander Sport that I maintain. I like that it has a timing chain instead of a belt and is port injection. There doesn't seem to be any common issues with the engine; the CVT will probably give out first.

So (not the Korean or Domestic types) it's pretty well made then and I can expect a long life if I am OCD about keeping it in good shape?

The body will most likely rust out way before that engine dies.
