Toyota's new 2.5L has proved itself

It is my office

Glad you got a good deal the car looks nice and solid. I just bought a RAV4 and quality has decreased dramatically - it will be my last Toyota!! It’s scary to go over 100MPH on my new car it’s poorly made!! The cooling is poor, ergonomics is not traditional Toyota, overall much money for a flimsy product

Since I have bought this van, its doors have been opened and closed, then opened and closed 15,000 times. And they still work like a clock, should tell you the quality of this thing

Do you think the covid was the culprit?

This is what happens when I coast, the engine shuts off, so it's really not 200,000 miles. Engine shuts off, oil pressure drops to zero, oil cools down, so that's why I never bothered with any other viscosity. I coast the hell out of this thing, no wonder I'm still on factory brakes. Plus the regenerative braking thing is very impressive.

I ordered the pads and rotors so I'll change them in a couple of months. Then the van should be good till at least 350,000 miles. Or maybe the quality of these ones are not as good as the ones that came from Factory

I have seen some really bad fuel dilation on this engine here on this forum, maybe your driving habits are different, you don't short trip the thing. My heads up was for the short trippers

I wasn't doing short tripping prior, but I do now. I'll be sending in an oil sample in a week or 2 and will post the results

The highest mileage I have seen on this motor is a 2022 Sienna with 385,000 miles. The guy got the worth out of the car and got fed up with it and traded it in for another brand new Sienna. I think he was using Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 all those miles, because he did long intervals, he didn't have time. And he didn't care about gas mileage

I was in DC last weekend for Cherry Blossom festival. The Sienna Hybrid I rode in was driven by a friendly Ethiopian lady who had 225k+ miles on it and according to Uber App she had completed 29k+ trips. Her oil of choice: Jiffy Lube bulk oil.

My oil temperature never gets above 170°, so I don't think shear was responsible for that drop. My oil temperature looks like that most of the time. So I wonder how a 30 grade will behave at those temperatures lol.

I got an OBD 2 bluetooth reader a couple months back and gave been watching oil temps on our 2025 Rav4 Hybrid a bit. Running M1 0W-20 EP.

In 40-60°F temps the oil never gets above 150°F city driving. But its usually just a few stops for groceries and whatnot. It'll be interesting to see how the temps look peak summer and winter. I think I'd be concerned about fuel dilution and condensation during winter with mostly city driving. The oil just doesn't get that hot.

Highway driving it takes at least 15-20min for the oil to reach 200°F from a cold start. I saw as high as 235°F during some fairly strenuous mountain driving in CO.

As soon as you get off the highway or reduce the engine load the temps drop like a rock. The oil cooler does its job.

Fuel dilution is a problem on this engine, you need to remember that. I drive the heck out of this thing and fuel still showed up in a couple of my oil reports. In the last report, Amsoil looks thin although it is the thickest 0w-16(thicker than Mobil 1 ESP 0w-20) I know of. That means fuel. So you have to be very careful, specially in the winter. Maybe let the filter stay and suck the oil out every 2,500 oils?

Fuel dilution seems to be a Sienna thing. Driving conditions are a key factor. I've never had any signs of fuel dilution, by smell, oil level or UOA with my D-4S engines, over almost 400,000 miles.

Just wanted to share my experience with this engine. It has been running strong, I am just a little under 200k miles on my 2021. I know some who have hit the 300k mark as well. Oil change every 5k miles and coolant every 60k.
Buy a Toyota blindly with this motor, it is one solid little unit.
Cheers!
50k a year. On the hiway alot. Any engine could do that
