Regarding the investigation in Aruba into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway from Mountain Brook, AL:

I feel that the government/police officials in Aruba are trying to sweep anything they find under the rug. How do you guys feel?

The same. They have a LOT of $$$ to lose from the U.S.

Look at the silly finger in the Wendy's chili and how they lost millions. Aruba stands to lose far more...

They have a lot of money to lose. But without this being properly resolved they could lose even more. If it looks like a white-wash I would think they would suffer more loss.

My wife and I went to the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana)a few years ago. I went to the local town where there were a bunch of stores, one of which was a cigar shop I had read about on the internet. I was reluctant to go but others had done it and I felt that my one saving grace was that if someone killed me they would lose money from bad press.

The slowness of the investigation is probably because the prime suspect is the son of a local judge, wealthy, and a Dutch citizen. The Dutch still call the shots in local Aruba politics, and still own most of the land. You can learn a lot by just asking the locals about politics, instead of the usual tourist questions

I have visited Aruba once, Curacao 3 times, and Bonaire 4 times. These islands are generally safer than other islands in the Caribbean, but no place is truly safe.

Aruba's prime business is actually Banking. There are more banks there than I have seen on any other island. Most Banks cater to, and have the most dollar deposits, with "Colombian Businessmen". Next on the list is tourist dollars from cruise ships. Third is tourist dollars from those actually staying on Aruba.

She is probably no longer with us

I hope they put this sicko in prison for the rest of his days, politics or no politics.

I'm sorry the girl is missing, and I hope they determine the perpetrator and bring him to justice, but...

Is she REALLY the only woman in or from the United States who was killed in the last month?

I'm so tired of the media cherry-picking these stories for their trashy intrigue and wide soap-opera story arcs.

W T F was she doing taking off with three young men that she barely knew? And in a foreign county!

No one deserves to die just for doing something stupid, but when someone does something terminally stupid, bad results shouldn't be a big surpise nor should they be particularly newsworthy.

More of the press coverage should be saying "girls, don't do what that dumb girl did."

People walking around with vaginas in their pants need to use good judgement about where they take them. Sometimes the world isn't a nice place.

OMC, I work with a Dutch fellow and he agrees with your analysis. Holland is Europe's "drug" store with Amsterdam being the largest manufacturing center for meth in the world.

AGREE!!!!!!

Its sad, but I think in general more personal responsibility is warranted in most every choice that most everyone makes...

Well said! Agree 100%.

Before you guys get too far into questioning this woman’s judgment, you might want to consider the possibility that GHB or one of the other “date rape” drugs were used.

GHB and its cousins are common in the United States and plentiful in overseas resort areas. They facilitate robbery as well as rape, and both men and women can be victimized by them. If this is news to you; and it may well be given the pass that both the press and law enforcement seem to give these things; you now have something else unpleasant to talk to your teenagers about.

I think the Media have been waiting to do a story like this. Cancun, Bahamas, Jamaica, and Aruba have been added to the "Spring Break - or any other reason - Party Central" list, where debauchery is the norm. As the Media likes to put it "a potential tragedy in the making". Potential tragedy is all too real now, and the Media can say "We told you so".

Let us not blame the victim here. All of us have done some thing, large or small, that in hindsight was very stupid. No one should be executed for stupidity that does not harm others.

DLW744 may be right, GHB could have been a contributor, or it could have been just high blood alcohol content. Alcohol kills more people than all the other drugs combined.
