Anyone notice a change on Microgard Select oil filters? Maybe it’s just this particular part number?

Did an oil change on the old Subaru Ascent today and took the old Microgard Select off that I did in February. Old filter on the left, new on the right. Went on with a new Microgard select again. But the inlet holes are quite a bit larger on the new one. I don’t think there’s a going to be any notable difference, but I just happened to notice it. I’ll see if the 57502 for my F150 is different later this week as I just picked up a filter for its oil change too.

Anyways, here’s the cut open old one. Looks great for 5100 miles using 5w30 VRP. Nothing notable in the pleats or the bottom of the can. Normally I go 4k miles, but summer road trips and life got in the way.

Where was the new one made ?? ..... Looks like a different factory baseplate than the usual ones we see.

There's a glut of CQPs coming through that are made in Malaysia. They look different from the Chinese and Vietnamese. PGI just seems to rotate factories. The filter you've posted looks great to me.

It really won't decrease the dP across the base plate to really matter ... but maybe MicroGard discovered that using big holes in the base plate will sell more oil filters because most people who don't understand PD oil pumps will think the filter will "flow more oil" compared to the one with smaller holes.

Looks like a wider base gasket too. The whole base diameter looks a little larger, but maybe an optical illusion - ??
