maxlife synthetic oil and maxlife filter anyone had experience with this oil and thier maxlife filter?
Going to be using it in a 1995 lexus es300 with 81,500 miles after switching from quacker state dino oil??

Great deal at autozone 5 free quarts up to $15 off

Maxlife Synthetic is great stuff. Here is the data from Valvoline's web site as of Sept '04:

Viscosity at 100C: 11.5 cSt
TBN: 10
Flash Point: 230 C
Pour Point: -42 C
NOACK % at 250C: 8.3
Zinc: 1000 ppm
Phosphours: 920 ppm
Calcium: 3870 ppm
Moly: 290 ppm

Also lists "Approvals/Performance Levels":
ACEA A3-02
BMW Longlife 98
Volkswagen 502.00, 505.00
and a few others like SL/CF

I will be running this in the wife's Aerostar, which likes the thicker 11.5 cSt 30 weight.

The filter I understand to be a Purolator made and so is very good and I believe the filter has the much-to-be-desired threaded end bypass valve. Good deal.

Hey, if you haven't already, please post the free Maxlife Synthetic details in the Rebates forum. I want some.

You mean some filters DONT have a bypass valve???

Does regular Fram have one?

I just replaced a wrapped bearing in a 95 Crown Vic Police and it had a Fram that appeared to be LOADED with crud. I am going to pull it out of the trash and cut it apart when I get home.

I just paid 2.85 for a NAPA silver that has a bypass valve.

If the vehicle requires a bypass valve, the filter should have one. GM as I understand it does not require a filter bypass as it is built into the engine block/filter mount.

The Fram bypass would be located in the bottom of the can.

The regular Valvoline filters are Champion, but the Maxlife is a Purolator. If you do a search on "Maxlife" in the Oil Filters forum you will find several threads discussing this. For example, here is a thread in which the opening post states that it says right on the Maxlife filter box, "engineered by Purolator." Also I remember having checked these out in the store and at least the Motorcraft FL1A version has the threaded end bypass.

Ditto for the MaxLife filter I have on the shelf. "Engineered by Purolator" printed on the side of the box.

I have been running maxlife synthetic 5w 30 and just did a round trip of 3500 miles and although I packed extra oil for top off but didn't need any. Driving the trip at average highway speeds of 78 mph with several stints to 85-90. some through the smokey mountains. All I can say is expected a 4 banger that turns a bit over 3k rpms at 80 mph to use a little oil.

This was the first real endurance test since I added this oil to the outlander..

I may perform a uoa when I drain although I have my doubts about using uoa's for determining oil performance.

I stocked up on MaxLifeSyn + other Syn's when AZ were blowing the API SL stock out for $1.50/$2 qt.

When I replaced a 65k mile old PCV valve and switched from MoCraft 5-30 SynBlend to MaxLifeSyn 10-30 and new Puralator PCV, oil consumption went from 1 qt ever 700-800 miles to 1 qt every 1200-1400 miles.

PCV was the culprit I think though.

This was in a 96 CV with 139k miles on orig 4.6.

I will be using my stock of 5-30 and 10-30 ValMaxLife for my Vic until I run out or I sell the Vic.

I think Bryanccfshr did the same as I did (stocking up on AZ's gracious cheap Syn sale)!

Your Lexus should like it. Change out your PCV and you should have minimal if no oil consumption.
